Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Statin Use and Benefits of Thyroid Function: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
PurposePrevious studies have suggested that cholesterol may influence thyroid function. Since statins are widely used for their cholesterol-lowering effect, we aimed to assess the association between statin use and thyroid function, and also to explore ...

Impact of Cholesterol on Voids in Phospholipid Membranes

open access: yes, 2004
Free volume pockets or voids are important to many biological processes in cell membranes. Free volume fluctuations are a prerequisite for diffusion of lipids and other macromolecules in lipid bilayers.

High-intensity interval training combined with vibration and dietary restriction Improves body composition and blood lipids in obese adults: a randomized trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This study aimed to compare the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with additional whole-body vibration (WBV) on body composition and lipid profile in obese/overweight adults on a hypocaloric diet.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

Associations of lipid profiles with the risk of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Background and purposeThe associations of lipid profiles with the risk of ischemic stroke (IS) or hemorrhagic stroke (HS) are controversial. In this study, we aimed to illustrate the optimal level for lipid levels in the risk of IS and HS.Materials and ...
