An Activity‐Based Inversion Framework for Estimating Sectoral Anthropogenic CO2 Emissions Using Multi‐Pollutant Satellite Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract This study develops an activity‐based inversion framework to quantify sectoral carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions using observations of co‐emitted air pollutants. It leverages distinct sectoral co‐emission profiles of nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and carbon monoxide (CO) to attribute sources and optimize sectoral activity‐rate ...

Resolving the Physical Ambiguity of Passive Infrared Cloud Optical Thickness Retrievals With Microwave Observations

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Satellite thermal infrared (TIR) observations, combined with machine‐learning methods, enable nighttime retrievals of cloud optical thickness (COT), but their cloud‐top‐dominated radiances provide ambiguous information for optically thick clouds.

Meteorological and Emission Drivers of Compound Heat and Ozone Pollution Episodes in Oklahoma City During Periods Influenced by Atlantic Tropical Cyclones

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 17, 16 September 2026.
Abstract Compound heat and ozone (O3) pollution events are widespread and pose significant health risks in urban areas. In the Southern Great Plains (SGP), where heat waves are becoming more frequent and intense, these compound events represent a growing environmental and public health concern, underscoring the need for improved process‐based ...

Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 72, 7 September 2026.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 51, 11 September 2026.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and
