Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Characterisation of wear particles genarated during accelerated testing of total hip replacement

open access: yes, 2004
PhDTotal hip replacements have been in use for over 30 years, and have shown great improvement from design to surgery since the first generation of implants were introduced.

A comparison of commercial assays quantifying mature brain-derived neurotrophic factor (mBDNF) and its precursor (pro-BDNF) in human serum

open access: yesScientific Reports
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its isoforms (pro- and mBDNF) are promising neurobiomarkers. While total serum BDNF levels have been previously validated, the newer isoforms have not. We aimed to identify the most common serum pro- and mBDNF

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Optimization of Extraction Process of Total Flavonoids from Loquat Leaves and Its Protective Effect on H9C2 Cells in Hypoxia Injury

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
To study the reflux extraction process of total flavonoids from loquat leaves and to investigate its protective effect on H9C2 cells in hypoxia injury. An orthogonal test was utilized to optimize the reflux extraction process parameters, Na2S2O4 was used

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The features of waveguides from hyperbolic metamaterials and topological insulators

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки, 2018
The refraction and reflection phenomena occurring at the boundaries of dielectric waveguides manufactured from the unusual materials have been discussed.
