Two types of microorganisms isolated from petroleum hydrocarbon pollutants: Degradation characteristics and metabolic pathways analysis of petroleum hydrocarbons.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
The petroleum hydrocarbons in seawater have been worldwide concern contaminants. Biological method, with the advantages of low cost, minimal environmental impact, and no secondary pollution, is a promising method for petroleum hydrocarbon treatment.

Solvent‐Free Manufacturing of Multifunctional Gas Diffusion Electrode Architectures for Enhanced CO2 Conversion From Low‐Concentration Streams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A tandem gas diffusion electrode (GDE) leveraging hierarchically engineered microgranules enables efficient CO2 electroreduction under dilute CO2 conditions. A key innovation lies in the solvent‐free precision assembly of metal–organic‐frameworks, carbon nanotubes, and copper nanoparticles.

Investigation of Metal and Organic Contaminant Distributions and Sedimentation Rates in Backwater Lakes along the Illinois River [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Systematic sub-sampling of sediment cores in sections of uniform thickness is necessary in order to evaluate historic changes in sediment quality, to determine the vertical extent of contamination, and to measure sedimentation rates.

Tracing Sub‐Monolayer Contamination on Wafer‐Scale 2D Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sub‐monolayer adventitious carbon contamination limits the performance and reproducibility of 2D material‐based devices. This study demonstrates scanning helium microscopy (SHeM) as a non‐destructive, ultra‐sensitive tool for wafer‐scale imaging of surface cleanliness.

Efficient Membranes Made of a Nanohybrid of Fluorine‐Doped Carbon Dots Coupled With Metal Organic Framework for High‐Performance Vanadium Redox Flow Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone)‐based hybrid membrane is fabricated with fluorine‐doped carbon dot (FCD) and functionalized metal organic framework (MIL−101−NH2). The novel design reduces unwanted ion crossover while maintaining a sufficient proton transport pathway.

Mixing ratios of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the atmosphere of Karachi, Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Mixing ratios of carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), non-methane hydrocarbons, halocarbons and alkyl nitrates (a total of 72 species) were determined for 78 whole air samples collected during the winter of 1998-1999 in Karachi, Pakistan.

An interatomic potential for saturated hydrocarbons based on the modified embedded-atom method

open access: yes, 2014
In this work, we developed an interatomic potential for saturated hydrocarbons using the modified embedded-atom method (MEAM), a reactive semi-empirical many-body potential based on density functional theory and pair potentials.
