Data on quantification of PAHs and elemental content in dry Camellia sinensis and herbal tea

open access: yesData in Brief, 2018
Here we present data on potentially toxic metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in commercially sold tea brands in Nigeria. The article provides data on the sequential extraction and the pseudo-total concentrations of eight metals (Cd, Cr ...

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Petroleum hydrocarbons in arctic urban lake sediments (Murmansk, Russia)

open access: yesGeography, Environment, Sustainability
The level of pollution of lake sediments located in the city of Murmansk (Russia) with petroleum hydrocarbons was studied. The most urban lakes can be classified as slightly polluted, representing the maximum acceptable risk for human health and ...

Investigation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) and index metals (Ni & V) on Gammarus’s tissue (Pontogammarus maeoticus) and coastal sediments of the Caspian Sea ; Guilan Province [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2018
The southern part of the Caspian Sea is one of the most important habitats for Gammarus (Pontogammarus maeoticus) species. These areas are surfing under the influence of persistent pollutants such as heavy metals, petroleum hydrocarbons and their ...

Volatile hydrocarbons inhibit methanogenic crude oil degradation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Methanogenic degradation of crude oil in subsurface sediments occurs slowly, but without the need for exogenous electron acceptors, is sustained for long periods and has enormous economic and environmental consequences.

Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Revitalization of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil Remediated by Landfarming

open access: yesToxics, 2022
Soil health deteriorates through the contamination and remediation processes, resulting in the limitation of the reuse and recycling of the remediated soils. Therefore, soil health should be recovered for the intended purposes of reuse and recycling. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability and effectiveness of several amendments to revitalize ...

Comparison of the efficiency of sodium nitrate and superphosphate as nutrients in the bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbon polluted water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The effect of Aspergillus Niger stimulated with 0.2M sodium nitrate and 0.2M single superphosphate fertilizer (nutrients) was investigated in this study. The ambient temperature averaged 29oC all through the 25 days of the research.
