Dosimetry for total body irradiation
Radiotherapy and Oncology, 1990Basic dosimetry as well as patient dosimetry are considered. The following items concerning the basic beam dosimetry are discussed: dosimetry calibration, phantom material, beam quality and depth dose measurements in TBI conditions. Dose to the patient should be specified to the midplane of the abdomen but dose to the lung should be estimated for each ...

Total lymphoid irradiation in renal transplantation
World Journal of Surgery, 1986AbstractTotal lymphoid irradiation (TLI), used in the treatment of some patients with Hodgkin's disease, produces profound immunological changes. In small rodents, mice and rats, a modified version of TLI results in transplantation tolerance for skin and heart allografts. The concept has been expanded to large outbred animals.

THERAPEUTIC IRRADIATION of the entire body was first employed in the hope that it would devitalize or destroy all wandering malignant cells or early metastatic foci without harm to the patient. Of course, much research on animals preceded the use of this technique on human beings. Total body irradiation, however, requires unique equipment.

Total lymphoid irradiation (TLI) was shown to have potent immunosuppressive effects in patients with Hodgkin's disease. In the last decade a handful of studies assessed the efficacy of TLI in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. A correlation between decline in T-helper cell number and a reduction in disease activity was noted in all studies; however ...

Dosimetry for total body irradiation
Radiotherapy and Oncology, 1987Total body irradiation (TBI) is becoming increasingly prominent as a major component of therapy for patients with hematological diseases requiring bone marrow transplantation. This review considers some of the special dosimetric problems associated with TBI.

Lymphomas and Total Body Irradiation
2010This book, arranged in an MCQ format complemented by oral exam questions, is designed to meet the needs of a wide range of examinees. Essential aspects of radiation physics, radiobiology, and clinical radiation oncology are well covered. Tumors at different sites are addressed in a series of individual chapters, and further chapters are devoted to ...

Total lymphoid irradiation (TLI) has become a useful tool for developing strategies to induce tissue specific transplantation tolerance and to treat autoimmune diseases in laboratory animals and humans. TLI was originally developed as a treatment for Hodgkin’s disease, and has been widely used during the past 20 years.

Abstract A total-body irradiation room has been built with eight cesium-137 sources. One 500 c source is near each corner of an 8 ft cubical room. An open maze, closed only with a gate, allows the patient and nurse to appear, through mirrors, to be in the same room.

Increasing enthusiasm for the aggressive radiotherapy of patients with Hodgkin's disease has resulted from worldwide recognition that irradiation is a potentially curative modality of treatment. The determinants that govern treatment decisions have progressively become defined more precisely.
