Computer assisted total knee arthroplasty using patient specific templates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Current techniques used for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) rely on conventional instrumentation (CI) systems that violate the intramedullary canals. The accuracy of these systems is questionable, and set up and assembly of their numerous pieces is time ...

3D‐Printed Piezoionic/Bioelectronic Hydrogel for Electro‐Metabolic Regulation of Osteogenic Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D‐printed piezoionic GPMx hydrogel enables stable electromechanical signal generation under mechanical loading, exhibiting long‐term durability and low fatigue. As a bioactive patch, it restores endogenous bioelectricity to stimulate osteogenesis via Ca2+ influx and mitochondrial activation, while simultaneously enabling label‐free alkaline ...

Will Total Knee Replacement Ever Provide Normal Knee Function?

open access: yesJournal of Interdisciplinary Medicine, 2017
Knee osteoarthritis or gonarthrosis is considered the most common joint disease, affecting more than 70% of subjects aged over 65 years. Its occurrence is increasing with age and is more problematic with the current rise in the incidence of obesity.

Persistent Symptomatic Knee After Total Knee Replacement. Is Knee Arthroscopy Helpful?

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedics, Trauma and Rehabilitation, 2015
Persistent symptoms following total knee replacement (TKR) could be diagnostically challenging. We present three cases of knee arthroscopy following TKR to illustrate the effectiveness of arthroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of persistent ...

Standardising the clinical assessment of coronal knee laxity

open access: yes, 2012
Clinical laxity tests are used for assessing knee ligament injuries and for soft tissue balancing in total knee arthroplasty. This study reports the development and validation of a quantitative technique of assessing collateral knee laxity through ...

Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

Unicompartmental knee replacement: controversies and technical considerations

open access: yesArthroplasty
Background Unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) is one of the effective interventions for the treatment of symptomatic knee osteoarthritis. Moreover, it has multiple advantages over total knee arthroplasty (TKA), including reduced intraoperative blood
