Sources and preservation of organic matter in soils of the wetlands in the Liaohe (Liao River) Delta, North China [PDF]
Total organic carbon, total nitrogen, delta C-13(org), delta N-15, and aliphatic and polyaromatic hydrocarbons of fifty-five soil samples collected from the coastal wetlands of the Liaohe Delta were measured, in order to determine the sources and ...

Iron mineral dissolution releases iron and associated organic carbon during permafrost thaw
It has been shown that reactive soil minerals, specifically iron(III) (oxyhydr)oxides, can trap organic carbon in soils overlying intact permafrost, and may limit carbon mobilization and degradation as it is observed in other environments.

Objective In complex diseases, it is challenging to assess a patient's disease state, trajectory, treatment exposures, and risk of multiple outcomes simultaneously, efficiently, and at the point of care. Methods We developed an interactive patient‐level data visualization and analysis tool (VAT) that automates illustration of the trajectory of a ...

Fires prime terrestrial organic carbon for riverine export to the global oceans
Black carbon (BC) is a recalcitrant form of organic carbon (OC) produced by landscape fires. BC is an important component of the global carbon cycle because, compared to unburned biogenic OC, it is selectively conserved in terrestrial and oceanic pools ...

Introduction There are no Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved therapies for Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) treatment in the United States (U.S.). Clinical trials have been challenged by study design. Important advances in RP patient reported outcome measures and mechanistic quantification allows RP‐related pain characterization.

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorus: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorus (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Estimating soil particulate organic carbon through total soil organic carbon
Particulate soil organic carbon (POC) is sensitive to management changes, and a good soil health indicator. However, its determination is tedious and time consuming. Given POC changes represent most of total organic carbon (TOC) variation due to soil use,
