Biosurfactant-enhanced removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons from contaminated soil

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009
A screening method was developed to evaluate the oil removal capability of biosurfactants for oil-contaminated soils collected from a heavy oil-polluted site. The ability of removing total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) from soil by two biosurfactants was identified and compared with that of synthetic surfactants.

Regulatory Guidelines for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contamination

2019
The contamination of land with total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) is a serious environmental and development issue in many nations. If managed well, it can be an opportunity for urban renewal and development. However, if not managed or remediated, it can pose deleterious effects on public health and the environment. Fortunately, industrialized nations

Benzene and Total Hydrocarbons Exposures in the Downstream Petroleum Industries

AIHAJ - American Industrial Hygiene Association, 2001
A review of studies, including both articles published in peer-reviewed journals and reports that were not peer reviewed, regarding occupational exposure to benzene and total hydrocarbons in the downstream petroleum industry operations was performed. The objective was to provide a broad estimate of exposures by compiling exposure data according to the ...

A novel total petroleum hydrocarbon fractionation strategy for human health risk assessment for petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated site management

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2010
Human health risk assessments for petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL)-contaminated sites are more complicated than for sites contaminated by single compounds due to the complex composition and various analytical methods associated with total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH).

Fate of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in the Environment

2019
An oil spill is the release of liquid petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) into the environment, especially the terrestrial (land) and aquatic ecosystems, due to human activities, and is a form of pollution. When the oil is spilled, it normally spreads out and moves in and on the surfaces of spilled sites while undergoing several physico-chemical changes ...

Impact of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons on Human Health

2019
Exposure to oil and oil products either directly or indirectly causes severe health issues in humans, and the effects are principally dependent on the nature of contact with the oil spill. Direct exposures include breathing contaminated air (volatile fractions which are emitted as gases) and direct contact with the skin (while walking in contaminated ...

Field Screening Technique for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons in Soils

Practice Periodical of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste Management, 1997
Available field screening tests for petroleum hydrocarbons in soil have addressed petroleum fuels, but not lubricating oils and other petroleum products. However, a new field screening test, Dexsil PetroFLAG, has been developed by the Dexsil Corp., Hamden, Conn., for all types of petroleum hydrocarbons.

Bioremediation and phytoremediation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) under various conditions

International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2017
Remediation of contaminated soils is often studied using fine-textured soils rather than low-fertility sandy soils, and few studies focus on recontamination events. This study compared aerobic and anaerobic treatments for remediation of freshly introduced used motor oil on a sandy soil previously phytoremediated and bioacclimated (microorganisms ...

Total petroleum hydrocarbons in edible marine biota from Northern Persian Gulf

Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2015
To provide a baseline information for consumer's health, distribution of total petroleum hydrocarbons in 18 edible marine biota species from northern Persian Gulf was evaluated. The samples were purchased from fish market of Hormozgan Province, South of Iran.

Methodologies for Analysis and Identification of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons

2019
Analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) from impacted media involves the collection and preservation of samples followed by extraction, concentration, and clean-up of the sample extract as well as detection and quantification of the petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs). Extraction involves the use of methods such as continuous liquid-liquid extraction,
