Second Vane Total Pressure Loss Due to Endwall Iceform Contouring

Volume 6: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2008
The iceformation design method generates an endwall contour, altering the secondary flows that produce elevated endwall heat transfer load and total pressure losses. Iceformation is an analog to regions of metal melting where a hot fluid alters the isothermal surface shape of a part as it is maintained by a cooling fluid.

Managed Pressure Drilling Operations in Deepwater and Total Circulation Losses Environments

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 2016
Abstract Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) has been widely considered as the best alternative for many drilling-related problems such as stuck pipe, lost circulation, excessive mud cost and narrow operating windows in deepwater environments.

Effect of Turbine Blade tip shape on the Total Pressure Loss of a Turbine Cascade

Journal of Fluid Machinery, 2009
Leakage flow through turbine blade tip gap causes strong leakage vortex near the blade suction side and induces large aerodynamic losses. In this study, the conventional plane tip and various squealer tip blades were tested in a linear cascade in order to measure the effect of the tip shape on the total pressure loss.

Correlation of flow path length to total pressure loss in diffuser flows

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2011
This article studies the effect of changing the flow path length on development of total pressure loss in diffuser flows. The studies incorporate quasi-one-dimensional (conical diffuser), two-dimensional (linear blade cascade), and three-dimensional (annular blade cascade) flows.

The Influence of Different Rim Seal Geometries on Hot-Gas Ingestion and Total Pressure Loss in a Low-Pressure Turbine

Volume 7: Turbomachinery, Parts A, B, and C, 2010
In order to prevent hot-gas ingestion into the rotating turbo machine’s inside, rim seals are used in the cavities located between stator- and rotor-disc. The sealing flow ejected through the rim seal interacts with the boundary layer of the main gas flow, thus playing a significant role in the formation of secondary flows which are a major contributor

Study of Total Pressure Losses at the Engine Face of a Submerged Inlet with an Ingested Vortex

2017
An experimental study of the effect of vortex ingestion into an S-duct diffuser on flow conditions at the engine face is presented. A simultaneous ingestion of a boundary layer is also considered. In order to form a boundary layer of well-defined thickness ahead of the intake the diffuser is arranged on a flat plate.

Application of the methods of numerical modeling to evaluation of the total-pressure loss in gas turbines

Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 2007
The total-pressure loss in gas turbines is evaluated. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations are used for numerical calculations. The Spalart-Allmaras model, the k-e model, and the two-layer model and their different modifications allowing for the rotation of the flow and the curvature of streamlines are used to close these equations.
