A setup for measuring total cross sections of nuclear reactions
Instruments and Experimental Techniques, 2012An experimental technique and a setup for measuring the energy dependence of the total cross sections of nuclear reactions with stable and radioactive nuclear beams at kinetic energies approaching the Coulomb barriers are described. The modified transmission method, complemented with γ-ray detection in the 4π geometry and pulse-shape discrimination of ...

The Optical Model and Proton Total Reaction Cross Sections
Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1963The relation between the calculated total reaction cross section and the optical model parameters is investigated for 17 Mev protons on copper. For both the real and imaginary central potential a Saxon-Woods form factor is used with a Thomas-type spin-orbit potential. A semi-automatic search procedure to find the parameters corresponding to the optimum

A model independent method of obtaining the total reaction cross section as a difference between integrals over solid angle of the Rutherford and measured elastic cross sections is proposed and discussed. The conditions for validity of the method are first that the measured differential cross section be Rutherford within experimental error at forward ...

Total reaction cross sections of 50 and 65 MeV pions on nuclei
Physical Review C, 1987Total reaction cross sections have been measured for 50 and 65 MeV ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ on C, O, $^{18}\mathrm{O}$, S, Ca, and Zr. The motivation for this experiment is to obtain cross sections to act as constraints in optical model fits to elastic scattering data.

Pion-Nucleus Total and Reaction Cross Sections
1995Data, including very recent results at low beam energies, for pion total and total reaction cross sections on complex nuclei are reviewed. The emphasis at low energies is on the coherent effects possible at long projectile wave lengths and accessible because of the long mean free path expected.

Proton total reaction cross sections at 34 MeV
Nuclear Physics, 1959Abstract Proton total reaction cross-sections have been measured for five elements at 34±2.5 MeV. Attenuation measurements were made with a d E / dχ telescope and a biased E counter, in poor geometry. Corrections for elastic and inelastic scattering were determined experimentally. The results have been compared with optical model analysis to select

Total and partial cross sections of the ??????(??,3??) reaction
2015The total cross-section of the ??????(??,3??) reaction in the energy range from the threshold to 40 MeV has been measured by the method using a diffusion chamber. It has been established that the two-stage mechanism is dominant: first, ??-particles and a ??????? nucleus are formed, then the latter disintegrates into two ??-particles.

Method for determining total proton reaction cross sections
2011Measurements of total proton reaction cross sections by the beam-attenuation method involve determinations of the number of protons removed from the incident beam by an absorber compared to those transmitted. This work presents an adaptation of the associated particle technique to enable total reaction cross section measurements for the 15.8 MeV ...
