Total Peripheral Resistance in Standard Shock
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1958The progress of the total peripheral resistance in shocked rats was assessed by the infusion time method. A small rise was the rule under standard conditions.

Classical Conditioning of Total Respiratory Resistance in Humans
Psychosomatic Medicine, 1995A differential classical conditioning paradigm was used to investigate changes in total respiratory resistance in healthy adult female subjects. The conditioned stimuli were red and blue colors projected on a screen, and the unconditioned stimulus was an arithmetic task in which the subject mentally subtracted serial 17s from a number displayed on the ...

Neuroprotective effect of epinephrine is revealed against the background of prazosin, β-antagonists and their combinations protect against cerebral ischemia. α2-Antagonists (but not α1) block the neuroprotective effect of these combinations, methyldopa, guanabenz, clonidine, and oxymetazoline and decrease brain resistance to ischemia.

Total Respiratory Resistance in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Respiration, 1989Using a recently described automated system, we measured total respiratory resistance (Rrs) of 59 patients with obstructive lung disease during spontaneous tidal breathing. We also measured airway resistance (Raw) and various other indices of pulmonary function.

Noninvasive identification of the total peripheral resistance baroreflex
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 2003We propose two identification algorithms for quantitating the total peripheral resistance (TPR) baroreflex, an important contributor to short-term arterial blood pressure (ABP) regulation. Each algorithm analyzes beat-to-beat fluctuations in ABP and cardiac output, which may both be obtained noninvasively in humans.

Primaries resist efforts for total academisation
Headteacher Update, 2016More than 2,000 primary schools have chosen to become academies. Others have been forced into it due to Ofsted judgements. Among the almost 14,000 that remain, the prospect of having no choice in the matter is causing concern

Optimal Ship Forms for Minimum Total Resistance
Journal of Ship Research, 1984A numerical scheme is developed by using the "tent" function to compute the hull surface area and then the ship frictional resistance in a quadratic form in terms of ship offsets. Combining with the wave resistance, a total ship resistance formula is derived in a standard quadratic form. With a set of linear-inequality constraints, the optimal solution

The Wing of Minimum Total Resistance
Journal of the Aeronautical Sciences, 1940TH E wing of minimum induced resistance for a given span and lift was first determined b y M . Munk. 1 I t is characterized by the property t ha t the induced velocity w perpendicular to the direction of flight velocity V is constant over the span b and, as a consequence, the circulation function V is given by an ellipse if the span b, the total lift L,

Total uterine impulse and cervical resistance at parturition
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1980Resistance to the passage of the fetus during parturition has been estimated indirectly by calculation of the active contraction area during the first stage of labor until the cervix reaches a dilatation of 5 cm--the period of cervical resistance. Parturients with a high total uterine impulse in this period were studied.

Insulin-Resistant Diabetes after Total Pancreatectomy
New England Journal of Medicine, 1954CONTRARY to speculation diabetes mellitus that follows total pancreatectomy in man is relatively mild. In the absence of infection or other complications the requirement for insulin is usually stable and ranges from 20 to 40 units daily. There is relatively little tendency to spontaneous ketosis and coma, but insulin sensitivity has been a frequent ...
