Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty for failed shoulder arthroplasty
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, 2012Shoulder arthroplasty provides excellent outcomes for most patients; however, a subset of these patients with a failed arthroplasty will require revision. Recently, the reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) has been used in these difficult clinical situations.

ABSTRACTSurgeons perform total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) procedures to reduce patients' intractable arthritic pain and to repair humeral head fractures. Total shoulder arthroplasty has undergone remarkable advances—not only in prosthetic improvements and refinements—but in patient outcomes.

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1989
Seventy Neer Series II total shoulder arthroplasties were performed in 65 patients. The average age was 69 years. The average follow-up period was 40 months. Rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis was the diagnosis in 34 and 29 shoulders, respectively. Rotator cuff tears were identified in 18 patients.

Anatomic Total Shoulder Arthroplasty and Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
JBJS Journal of Orthopaedics for Physician Assistants, 2020The use of shoulder arthroplasty has increased drastically since the early 2000s. Originally described as the gold standard for the treatment of advanced glenohumeral osteoarthritis, advances in implant design and type have allowed for a greater number of indications, expanding its use worldwide.

Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, 2009The radical changes in prosthetic design made in the mid 1980s transformed the historically poorly performing reverse ball-and-socket total shoulder prosthesis into a highly successful salvage implant for pseudoparalytic, severely rotator cuff-deficient shoulders.
