Muscle pain inhibits cutaneous touch perception
Pain, 2001The processing of noxious and non-noxious sensations differs between chronic pain syndromes, and we believe that studies of sensory processing in the presence of pain will help to clarify the aetiology of the conditions. Here we measured in humans the threshold-level mechanosensitivity in tonic experimental muscle pain.

Texture perception via active touch
Human Movement Science, 1994Abstract The importance of movement in texture perception by touch has long been appreciated, but problematic issues related to the utilization of information during active touch persist. How is the repeated demonstration of active–passive equivalence in perceptual sensitivity to felt texture to be interpreted?

Sex Differences in the Perception of Touching
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1978Sex differences in the perception of touching were investigated by having 25 male and 25 female college students rate how likeable a touch would be under different conditions. The women produced a more favorable affect than the men when they touched, and women were perceived as liking to be touched mote than men.

Reliability of perception of fever by touch
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2003To assess the reliability of touch to predict fever in children.200 children who reported with fever formed the study material. Group I consisted of 100 children between 0-1 year of age and Group II consisted of 100 children between 6-12 years of age. Preterm, neonates under warming device, tachypnoeic and hypothermic were excluded from the study.

Perception of touch quality in piano tones
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2014Both timbre and dynamics of isolated piano tones are determined exclusively by the speed with which the hammer hits the strings. This physical view has been challenged by pianists who emphasize the importance of the way the keyboard is touched. This article presents empirical evidence from two perception experiments showing that touch-dependent sound ...

Haptic perception of curvature through active touch
2011 IEEE World Haptics Conference, 2011Haptic perception of curvature can be achieved by passive or active finger touch. In this study we proposed a new curvature perception haptic device that can independently orient, elevate and translate a flat plate. By exploring it with a finger through active touch, we can render a curved shape.

Postpartum Perceptions of Touch Received During Labor
Research in Nursing & Health, 1979AbstractAn exploratory study using interviews of 150 postpartum women was done to determine their perceptions of the touch they received during labor. Significant differences in age, race, and marital status were

The Perception of Complex Patterns by Touch
Perception, 1985Two experiments are reported on matching Braille characters in dot pattern and outline shape formats by congenitally blind subjects. In a third experiment subjects' drawings of Braille shapes were analysed. Experiment 1 showed that normal and retarded readers differed significantly when outline shapes ‘cued’ identical dot patterns, but did not differ
