A Tangentially Sensitive Tactile Sensor Reveals the Stick‐Slip Mechanism and Enhances Robotic Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ultralight, multilayer anisotropic tactile sensor—an artificial Pacinian corpuscle—exhibits ultrahigh tangential sensitivity (1022 kPa−1) and spatiotemporal sensing. It discriminates static, sliding, and rolling contacts, detects incipient stick–slip via high‑frequency signatures, and enhances robotic touch (100%/98.18% accuracy for active/passive ...

[Transformation toughening] [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
In NiAl, we have succeeded in determining the complete Ginzburg-Landau strain free energy function necessary to model the cubic to tetragonal martensite transformation in a sample of any size. We believe that this is the first time that the parameters of a Ginzburg-Landau functional and the complete strain spinodal for any three-dimensional displacive ...

An Elastocaloric Polymer with Ultra‐High Solid‐State Cooling via Defect Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work reports a defect‐engineering strategy that enables a record‐high adiabatic temperature change of up to 8.14 ± 1.76 °C in elastomers at an elevated temperature above 65 °C. Combined experimental and theoretical efforts reveal that increasing dangling‐chain defects nonmonotonically impacts the elastocaloric cooling performance of polymers due ...

Computational model of spalling and effective fibers on toughening in fiber reinforced composites at an early stage of crack formation

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
This work suggests a computational model that takes account of effective fibers on toughening in FRC at an early stage of crack formation. We derived the distribution of pressure provoked by a random inclined fiber in the matrix and calculated stresses ...

Deformable Eutectic Alloy With Near‐Theoretical Yield Strength via Hierarchical Nanoscale Multiphases and Sessile Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CoCrFeNiTa0.4 eutectic high‐entropy alloy achieves a near‐theoretical yield strength of 2.6 GPa with 13.6% plasticity. This breakthrough stems from a hierarchical nanostructure (FCC‐Laves lamellae with L12/D022 precipitates), which alleviates the inter‐phase modulus/hardness mismatch through synergistic strengthening and toughening, guiding the ...

Tenacificação do poli(ácido lático) pela adição do terpolímero (etileno/acrilato de metila/metacrilato de glicidila) Toughening of polylactide by melt blending with an (ethylene/methyl acrylate/glycidyl methacrylate) terpolymer

open access: yesPolímeros, 2012
O poli(ácido lático) é um polímero biodegradável proveniente de fontes renováveis com grande potencial para substituir polímeros não biodegradáveis provenientes do petróleo.

Plastic deformation mechanisms in polyimide resins and their semi-interpenetrating networks [PDF]

open access: yes
High-performance thermoset resins and composites are critical to the future growth of space, aircraft, and defense industries in the USA. However, the processing-structure-property relationships in these materials remain poorly understood. In the present

Fracture toughness and crack-resistance curve behavior in metallic glass-matrix composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Nonlinear-elastic fracture mechanics methods are used to assess the fracture toughness of bulk metallic glass (BMG) composites; results are compared with similar measurements for other monolithic and composite BMG alloys.

Hierarchical Strain‐Modified Medium‐Entropy Carbide Ceramics Exhibit Exceptional Ablation Resistance up to 2400°C

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel strategy is developed by doping reduced graphene oxide (rGO) into a (HfZrTi)C medium‐entropy ceramic. This induces a hierarchical strain modification mechanism, synergistically inhibiting crack propagation at the microscale and dissipating stress at the mesoscale.

Research and Application of Micro Expansion Anti Channeling Cement Slurry System in Agadem Oilfield

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2020
In the Agadem Block of Niger, the qualified rate of cementing with three-opening liner is only 40%. The transition time of the cement slurry system UCA used in the field is 43 minutes, the expansion rate is -0.03% in 24 hours, and the channeling ...
