Western Tourists and Local Guides

In the 1920s, the caricaturists of Al-Fukaha mock Western tourists who are helplessly at the mercy of local guides and vendors. At the same time, the local tourist guides are also targeted: Coming from the common people, they are portrayed as outsmarting foreign tourists, but are criticised by the middle-class cartoonists for their backwardness.
