Evaluating Prey Availability for the Rice's Whale (Balaenoptera ricei) Based on Environmental DNA
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 1, January 2026.To characterize the prey community of the critically endangered Rice's whale, we employed environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding in its core habitat. Our multi‐marker approach detected significantly greater fish biodiversity than concurrent trawl surveys and revealed a higher prevalence of key prey taxa.
