Numerical Evaluation of Wind Speed Influence on Accident Toxic Spill Consequences Scales

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies, 2023
This study aims to evaluate numerically the influence of wind speed on scales of environmental harmful consequences caused by accidentally spilled toxic liquid evaporated from the surface of a free-form outlined spill spot.

A Risk Assessment System of Toxic Gas Leakages in Metallurgy Based on Fuzzy Evaluation with Comprehensive Weighting

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Toxic gas leakage in metallurgic plants has emerged with the growth of crude steel production in recent years, causing damage to people, facilities, and the environment. Poisonous gas leakage can lead to other severe accidents including fires, explosions

Plasma-Treated Nanostructured Resistive Gas Sensors: A Review

open access: yesSensors
Resistive gas sensors are among the most widely used sensors for the detection of various gases. In this type of gas sensor, the gas sensing capability is linked to the surface properties of the sensing layer, and accordingly, modification of the sensing

Resistive-Based Nanostructured CeO2 Gas Sensors: A Review

open access: yesChemosensors
Air pollution and the emission of toxic gases represent a critical global concern, posing significant threats to human health and environmental stability. Resistive gas sensors are widely employed to detect toxic gases, owing to their cost-effectiveness,

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Fish and amphibians as test organisms for evaluation of effects caused by chemicals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A large number of chemicals can contaminate aquatic environments and therefore be exposed to fish and amphibians during their sensitive stages of development.
