Toxoplasma-induced behavior changes - is microbial dysbiosis the missing link?

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is one of the most successful intracellular protozoa in that it can infect the majority of mammalian cell types during the acute phase of infection.

A survey of rats and mice for latent toxoplasmosis inCroatia: a case report

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2005
Academyof Sciences and Arts,Zagreb,Croatia ABSTRACT: Brain tissues of 142 rats and 86 mice were bioassayed for toxoplasms. Each tissue was homogenized and subcutaneously injected into 4 SPF mice.

In Vivo Biotinylation of the Toxoplasma Parasitophorous Vacuole Reveals Novel Dense Granule Proteins Important for Parasite Growth and Pathogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
UnlabelledToxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular parasite that invades host cells and replicates within a unique parasitophorous vacuole. To maintain this intracellular niche, the parasite secretes an array of dense granule proteins (GRAs) into ...

Traction force generation in Plasmodium sporozoites is modulated by a surface adhesin

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Plasmodium sporozoites are the highly polarised and motile forms of the malaria parasite transmitted by mosquitoes to the vertebrate hosts. Sporozoites use myosin motors to generate retrograde flow of actin filaments. These are linked to plasma membrane spanning adhesins, which in turn bind to the extracellular environment, resulting in ...

Serological and molecular rapid diagnostic tests for Toxoplasma infection in humans and animals

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, 2019
Infection by Toxoplasma gondii is prevalent worldwide. The parasite can infect a broad spectrum of vertebrate hosts, but infection of fetuses and immunocompromised patients is of particular concern.

The Toxoplasma gondii active serine hydrolase 4 regulates parasite division and intravacuolar parasite architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hydrolase are enzymes that regulate diverse biological processes, including posttranslational protein modifications. Recent work identified four active serine hydrolases (ASHs) in Toxoplasma gondii as candidate depalmitoylases. However, only TgPPT1 (ASH1)

Erythrocyte Membrane Protein 3 (EMAP3) Is Exposed on the Surface of the Plasmodium berghei Infected Red Blood Cell

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Erythrocyte membrane protein 3 (EMAP3) is a novel Plasmodium berghei protein that is trafficked to the outer membrane surface of the infected red blood cell (iRBC). EMAP3 is not critical for parasite growth or sequestration but offers a new scaffold for displaying Plasmodium falciparum proteins on iRBCs.

Toxoplasma GRA15 Activates the NF-κB Pathway through Interactions with TNF Receptor-Associated Factors

open access: yesmBio, 2019
The parasite Toxoplasma can cause birth defects and severe disease in immunosuppressed patients. Strain differences in pathogenicity exist, and these differences are due to polymorphic effector proteins that Toxoplasma secretes into the host cell to ...

QuilA-adjuvanted T. gondii lysate antigens trigger robust antibody and IFNγ+ T cell responses in pigs leading to reduction in parasite DNA in tissues upon challenge infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular parasite of all mammals and birds, responsible for toxoplasmosis. In healthy individuals T. gondii infections mostly remain asymptomatic, however this parasite causes severe morbidity and mortality in ...
