We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

Detection of high levels of congenital transmission of toxoplasma gondii in natural urban populations of mus domesticus [PDF]
The relative importance of different transmission routes of Toxoplasma gondii has been a matter for debate. This ubiquitous parasite is generally thought to be transmitted by infective oocysts excreted by the definitive host, the cat.

Border disease viruses (BDV) and bovine viral diarrhoea viruses (BVDV) are members of the Pestivirus genus in the family Flaviviridae. While BVDV is one of the most significant endemic viral infections of cattle in Australia, BDV infection is generally considered to be uncommon in Australian sheep.

Toxoplasma gondii Syntaxin 6 is required for vesicular transport between endosomal-like compartments and the Golgi Complex [PDF]
Apicomplexans are obligate intracellular parasites that invade the host cell in an active process that relies on unique secretory organelles (micronemes, rhoptries and dense granules) localized at the apical tip of these highly polarized eukaryotes ...

Toxoplasma gondii Modulates the Host Cell Responses: An Overview of Apoptosis Pathways
Infection with Toxoplasma gondii has a major implication in public health. Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite that can infect all nucleated cells belonging to a wide range of host species. One of the particularities of this

Characteristics of Organic Pig Production and risk analysis concerning Toxoplasma infection [PDF]
A short written questionnaire was used to study certain characteristics of the organic pig production chain in The Netherlands and the circumstances on the farm that might play a role in the transmission of Toxoplasma infection to the pigs.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been a breakthrough in cancer therapy, inducing durable remissions in responding patients. However, they are associated with variable outcomes, spanning from disease hyperprogression to complete responses with the onset of immune‐related adverse events.

WONOEP XVII appraisal: The immunopathogenesis of epilepsy
Abstract There is a wealth of data indicating that the immune system plays an important role in seizure disorders. This includes autoimmune encephalitis, in which an immune response directed against neuronal antigens results in brain inflammation and subsequent seizure activity, as well as autoimmune‐associated epilepsy and neuroinflammatory changes ...

Toxoplasma gondii infection drives conversion of NK cells into ILC1-like cells
Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) were originally classified based on their cytokine profiles, placing natural killer (NK) cells and ILC1s together, but recent studies support their separation into different lineages at steady-state.
