Understanding Pressures on Threatened Elasmobranchs and Their Drivers to Design Effective Management: Insights From Southern Sumbawa

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Overfishing of elasmobranchs is a major conservation concern, with large proportions of elasmobranch fishing mortality attributable to incidental catch in small‐scale fisheries. Understanding the drivers and impacts of these incidental catches on elasmobranch populations is essential for designing management responses.

Delphi Participant as an Ancestor: Introducing the Ubuntu Intergenerational Primer for Mitigating Future Discounting Bias in Southern Africa Collectivist Culture

open access: yesFUTURES &FORESIGHT SCIENCE, Volume 8, Issue 2, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper introduces the Ubuntu Intergenerational Primer (UIP), a culturally grounded cognitive debiasing intervention designed to mitigate future discounting bias among Real‐Time Delphi (RTD) participants in Southern Africa. Learning from prior research engagements and informed by the region's cultural settings, we innovated around the Rip ...

Determinants of Food Wasting Behavior: The Role of Organic Food Consumption and Environmental Literacy

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2026.
Among 1025 adults, organic food consumption was associated with both positive waste‐reduction practices (buying as needed and planning shopping) and a greater likelihood of discarding unpalatable foods, suggesting a potential green licensing effect.

Feasibility of Comprehensive Genomic Profiling for Biliary Tract Cancer Using Transpapillary Biopsy Samples: A Prospective Study

open access: yesJournal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences, Volume 33, Issue 8, Page 615-623, August 2026.
Miyamoto and colleagues found that introducer‐assisted multipass transpapillary biopsy could yield specimens suitable for comprehensive genomic profiling in biliary tract cancer, although suitability remained limited and panel dependent. Fresh frozen samples yielded markedly higher DNA quality than formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded samples, supporting ...

Polymaterial Lattice Discrete Particle Model for the Optimization of Lightweight Aggregate Concrete: Intragranular Fracture and Compression Behavior

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, Volume 50, Issue 12, Page 4764-4779, 25 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) offers clear advantages for sustainable construction, including reduced density and improved thermal insulation. However, its mechanical and fracture behavior is difficult to characterize due to the heterogeneity and brittle crushing of porous lightweight aggregates.
