State-Sum TQFTs

Abstract Manifolds can be decomposed into simplicies (triangles in 2D or tetrahedra in 3D). TQFTs can be constructed as state sums over discrete quantum numbers on the on these discretized manifolds. Such sums appear like partition functions, statistical mechanics sums of Boltzmann weights.

The state sum TQFT

Fix throughout this chapter a spherical fusion \(\mathbb{K}\)-category \(\mathcal{C}\) and a representative set I of simple objects of \(\mathcal{C}\). Unless explicitly stated to the contrary, we assume that dim(\(\mathcal{C}\)) is invertible in \(\mathbb{K}\).We derive from this data a 3-dimensional TQFT \(|\cdot|_\mathcal{C}\).
