Two new species of Calea ser. Multiplinerviae (Asteraceae: Neurolaeneae) from Brazil

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Detailed studies of specimens from Rondônia and Mato Grosso do Sul showed that two new species have been misidentified: Calea micropappa resembles Calea pilosa, but differs by leaf apex obtuse to acuminate (versus acute), paleae present (versus paleae absent), disc corolla lobes 1.2–1.3 mm long (versus 0.7–0.8 mm), and pappus scales 0.1–0.25 mm long ...

Status and future of seed conservation of threatened plants in the post‐2020 era

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Ambitious targets have been set to backup seeds of threatened plants by the global strategy for plant conservation (GSPC), but it is unclear in how far these targets have been met and how seed collection should be organized to meet future challenges. Here, we provide an overview of the status of 44 countries in achieving seed conservation targets.

Taxonomic and functional diversity of urban bees of the world

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Bees play a pivotal role in terrestrial environments. Urbanization can affect these organisms and the ecosystem services they provide. However, knowledge of the global diversity of urban bees is limited. Thus, we summarized data on urban bee species identities and occurrences; compared distributions of all bees with those found in urban ...

“On a tree”, “terrestrial”, or “on the rocks”? Habit diversity in the megadiverse genus Peperomia

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
The plasticity of a large proportion of Peperomia species to occupy multiple types of microhabitats is not well documented due to the typically rigid categorization of habitat use. Therefore, the numerical approach presented is methodologically innovative to advance ecological data integration to provide a more realistic visualization of the habitat ...

Understanding landowners' preferences to participate in tropical mountain forest restoration

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction The restoration of degraded tropical forests is a promising strategy to mitigate the climate and biodiversity crises. Across the globe large areas have the potential to be restored through multiplying small‐scale initiatives implemented by landowners working at local scales.

Extent, characteristics and policy applications of Key Biodiversity Areas

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 1735-1759, August 2026.
ABSTRACT A global standard for the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) was published 10 years ago to provide a unified set of criteria for identifying ‘sites of significance for the global persistence of biodiversity’. We review the initiative's origins, the KBA identification process, characteristics of the current network, threats, policy

Repositories of biocultural diversity: Toward best practices for empowering ethnobotany in digital herbaria

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1095-1103, July 2026.
Societal Impact Statement As herbaria digitize millions of plant specimens, ethnobotanical information associated with them is becoming increasingly accessible. These biocultural data include plant uses, names, and/or management practices of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs).

EFECTO DEL CAMBIO EN LA CONDICIÓN CORPORAL, SOBRE LA ACTIVIDAD ESTRAL, EL DESARROLLO FOLICULAR Y TASA OVULATORIA EN OVEJAS PELIBUEY MANTENIDAS EN CONDICIONES DE TRÓPICO

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2010

Assessing current curation, identification and digitisation practices in herbaria: Results from a global survey

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1175-1194, July 2026.
The value of herbarium specimens depends largely on the accuracy and accessibility of the data captured, which is dependent on curation practices. Previous studies have shown high levels of misidentification in collections, which become more problematic with increased access.
