Physical properties of trabecular bone
Calcified Tissue Research, 1970The purpose of this investigation was to determine the relation between compressive strength and density of human vertebral bone, the relation between trabecular orientation and compressive strength, and the effects of the strain rate on compressive strength. A total of 71 samples obtained at 23 post mortem examinations were investigated.

Trabecular Bone Score in Rheumatic Disease
Current Rheumatology Reports, 2022Patients with rheumatic disease are at high risk of low bone mass and osteoporotic fracture. Trabecular bone score (TBS), derived from lumbar spine dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), is a novel measure of bone texture that independently predicts fracture risk.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2005
The development of NMR diffusion imaging and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has offered the possibility of studying the porous structures beyond anatomical imaging. In fact, random molecular motions, within tissue components, probe tissue microstructures.

The relationship between spinal trabecular bone mineral density and iliac crest trabecular bone volume has been studied in 84 patients, 23 with primary osteoporosis, 19 with osteoporosis secondary to inflammatory bowel disease, and 42 with nonsteroid-treated rheumatoid arthritis.

Trabecular bone remodeling and bone balance in hyperthyroidism
Bone, 1985In vivo tetracycline double-labeled iliac crest bone biopsies from 15 hyperthyroid patients were used for the reconstruction of curves describing the variation of resorption depth and formation thickness with time. The curves emerging were compared to curves reconstructed from 13 age- and sex-matched normal individuals (mean age 44 years).

Vertebral Osteoporosis and Trabecular Bone Quality
Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 2006Vertebral fractures due to osteoporosis commonly occur under non-traumatic loading conditions. This problem affects more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 10 men over a lifetime. Measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) has traditionally been used as a method for diagnosis of vertebral osteoporosis.

Elastic modulus of trabecular bone material
Journal of Biomechanics, 1988An ultrasonic technique was used to measure both the elastic modulus (Young's modulus) of trabecular bone material and the elastic modulus of the cancellous structure. The average trabecular modulus, measured on specimens obtained from three human and one bovine distal femora, was 13.0 GPa (S.D. 1.47) and 10.9 GPa (S.D. 1.57), respectively.

Material properties of trabecular bone structures
Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2002The transplantation of human allograft for restoration and filling of cortical bone defects is well known. Our aim was an experimental investigation of the mechanical stability of the often used femoral head spongiosa depending on the caliber and extent of the allograft.

Mechanical behavior of damaged trabecular bone
Journal of Biomechanics, 1994The mechanical behavior of damaged trabecular bone may play a role in the etiology of age-related spine fractures since damaged bone exists in and may weaken the elderly vertebral body. To describe some characteristics of damaged trabecular bone, we measured the changes in modulus and strength that occur when bovine trabecular bone is loaded in ...

Tensile strength of bovine trabecular bone
Journal of Biomechanics, 1985Data on the tensile and compressive properties of trabecular bone are needed to define input parameters and failure criteria for modeling total joint replacements. To help resolve differences in reports comparing tensile and compressive properties of trabecular bone, we have developed new methods, based on porous foam technology, for tensile testing of
