Glucocorticoids and Trabecular Bone Score
TBS (Trabecular Bone Score) is the latest tool for clinicians to evaluate bone micro-architecture based on a pixel greyscale, which is provided by lumbar dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Its use enhances fracture prediction in addition to DXA-BMD (Bone Mineral Density). This is independent of fracture risk assessment (FRAX) and DXA results.

Trabecular architecture in the sciuromorph femoral head: allometry and functional adaptation
Background Sciuromorpha (squirrels and close relatives) are diverse in terms of body size and locomotor behavior. Individual species are specialized to perform climbing, gliding or digging behavior, the latter being the result of multiple independent ...

Recent origin of low trabecular bone density in modern humans [PDF]
Humans are unique, compared with our closest living relatives (chimpanzees) and early fossil hominins, in having an enlarged body size and lower limb joint surfaces in combination with a relatively gracile skeleton (i.e., lower bone mass for our body ...

Model-Independent 3D Descriptors of Vertebral Cancellous Bone Architecture
High-resolution micro computed tomography has enabled measurement of bone architecture derived from 3D representations of cancellous bone. Twenty-eight vertebral bodies were obtained from four embalmed male cadavers.

Genetic Dissection of Trabecular Bone Structure with Mouse Intersubspecific Consomic Strains
Trabecular bone structure has an important influence on bone strength, but little is known about its genetic regulation. To elucidate the genetic factor(s) regulating trabecular bone structure, we compared the trabecular bone structures of two ...

Deletion of a Single beta-Catenin Allele in Osteocytes Abolishes the Bone Anabolic Response to Loading [PDF]
The Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is essential for bone cell viability and function and for skeletal integrity. To determine if β-catenin in osteocytes plays a role in the bone anabolic response to mechanical loading, 18- to 24-week-old osteocyte β ...

Bone size and bone strength are increased in obese male adolescents [PDF]
Context: Controversy exists on the effect of obesity on bone development during puberty. Objective: Our objective was to determine differences in volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) and bone geometry in male obese adolescents (ObAs) in overlap with ...

Biomechanical and histomorphological analysis of the mandible in rats with chronic kidney disease
The present study aimed to investigate the biomechanical and histomorphological features of mandibles in an adenine-induced chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) rat model of CKD.
