Trabeculectomy at the inferior limbus

Abstract. Fourteen eyes (12 with open‐angle glaucoma and 2 with secondary glaucoma) of 14 patients were operated by trabeculectomy at the inferior limbus. The surgical technique is described and results of 6–12 months follow‐up are reported. Complication rate was reasonably low.

The Effect of Trabeculectomy on Astigmatism

We measured the visual acuity, automated keratorefractometry, and the intraocular pressure preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, and 6 months.

Angiogenesis: Trabeculectomy and Bevacizumab

The use of bevacizumab for the treatment of proliferative diabetic retinopathy, neovascular glaucoma, neovascular age related macular degeneration, and cystoid macular edema has been extensively reported upon. From the published case reports available, bevacizumab may be a useful adjunct to the trabeculectomy procedure.

In a critical review of trabeculectomy, some factors and steps that I consider important for its successful outcome are discussed. Trabeculectomy is a misnomer, because the success of this procedure does not depend on inclusion of trabecular meshwork or Schlemm's canal in the excised tissue.

Trabeculectomy as first choice of treatment has been performed on 100 consecutive cases in Africans. During the follow-up period ranging from 2 to 12 months, 79 eyes had a postoperative intraocular pressure of less than 21 mm Hg without any antiglaucomatous medications.

Is combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy as effective as trabeculectomy alone?

We reviewed the charts of 60 consecutive patients with open-angle glaucoma who underwent a trabeculectomy (T) or a single-site combined glaucoma and cataract procedure (phaco-trabeculectomy = PT) to compare the pressure lowering effect of both techniques.
