To the Editor. —In the August issue of theArchives(92:134, 1974), Schwartz and Anderson presented the results of trabeculectomies performed for different types of glaucoma. I wish to disagree with the statement that "the precise location of the excision of the trabecular meshwork and Schlemm's canal may not be necessary." Excising sclera over the ...

Trabeculectomy With Releasable Sutures
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1994We attempted to reduce some of the postoperative complications of trabeculectomy by using releasable scleral flap sutures. This technique allows an initial tight closure of the scleral flap with the option to increase aqueous humor outflow in the early postoperative period.

Outcome of consecutive trabeculectomy
Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology, 2004Abstract Purpose: To establish a criterion for success of primary phakic trabeculectomy in the second eye of the same patient, using the first operated eye as a predictor for the surgical outcome. Methods: The outcome of primary phakic trabeculectomy was retrospectively compared in both eyes of 23 patients.

Penetrating Keratoplasty With Trabeculectomy
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1985Seven patients who had a mean preoperative intraocular pressure of 40 mm Hg (range, 34 to 52 mm Hg) underwent combined keratoplasty and trabeculectomy. This resulted in an average postoperative intraocular pressure of 23.7 mm Hg. Five of seven eyes had well controlled intraocular pressures throughout the postoperative period (mean follow-up, 16.1 ...

Innovations and adaptations in trabeculectomy
Current Opinion in Ophthalmology, 2016This article examines the current literature reporting updates on trabeculectomy techniques, complications, and cost-effectiveness.Trabeculectomy continues to be the standard for glaucoma surgery when a low intraocular pressure is required. Recent publications describe technique modifications that successfully increase efficacy and lower complications.
