Progress in Translating Glaucoma Genetics Into the Clinic: A Review

open access: yesClinical &Experimental Ophthalmology, Volume 53, Issue 3, Page 246-259, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Precision medicine is paving the way for personalised risk assessment, and its translation into glaucoma clinics holds potential to change current management paradigms. Our understanding of glaucoma's genetic architecture has expanded in recent years, recognising both monogenic and polygenic contributions.

Variation of Bruch's membrane opening in response to intraocular pressure change during scleral lens wear, in a population with keratoconus

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, Volume 45, Issue 2, Page 405-415, March 2025.
Abstract Purpose The present study aimed to determine the potential impact of scleral lenses on intraocular pressure (IOP) by analysing the Bruch's membrane opening–minimum rim width (BMO‐MRW) while the lenses are worn, in a population with keratoconus.

Colloid‐Forming Prodrug‐Hydrogel Composite Prolongs Lower Intraocular Pressure in Rodent Eyes after Subconjunctival Injection

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 8, February 25, 2025.
Colloidal drug aggregates (CDAs) are repurposed as a platform for long‐acting ocular drug delivery. Timolol palmitate CDAs are stabilized within an in situ gelling hydrogel and injected subconjunctivally, reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) for 49 d with lower systemic exposure compared to conventional eye drops.

A New Ocular Phenotype Combining Juvenile Glaucoma and Doyne Honeycomb Retinal Dystrophy (Malattia Leventinese) due to a Novel EFEMP1 Pathogenic Variant

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 197, Issue 1, January 2025.
ABSTRACT Doyne honeycomb retinal dystrophy (DHRD), also termed malattia leventinese (MLVT), is a dominantly inherited ocular disease characterized by the progressive accumulation of macular and peripapillary drusenoid material beneath the retinal pigment epithelium in the Bruch membrane.
