Trace metals in waters

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. B, Biological Sciences, 1979
Abstract The topic of this paper is extremely broad, and to allow more useful discussion, emphasis is placed on trace (less than 1 mg/1) metals in fresh surface waters and in drinking waters. An attempt is made to give a broad overview of current knowledge, problems and research with particular reference to the following: (1) metals ...

Trace Metal Pollution in the Environment

Journal of the Air Pollution Control Association, 1973
Trace metals introduced to the environment from fuel combustion, incineration, and industrial emission sources are causing increasing concern to air pollution researchers. Several metals in urban air, including lead and vanadium, are associated with particles in the predominantly submicrometer diameter range thereby presenting an inhalation threat ...

Trace Metals in Oyster Shells

Environmental Letters, 1973
Measurements using atomic absorption spectrometry have established the prescence of Pb, Hg, Cd, Zn, Cu, and Cr in shells of the oyster Crassostrea virginica in amounts considerably higher than their concentration in sea water. Preliminary comparisons of trace elements in shells from widely separated areas do not suggest large differences.

Trace Metals in Postdate Pregnancy

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 2010
Maternal and cord serum calcium, copper, iron and zinc concentrations were analyzed in 20 women with a postdate pregnancy. The control group consisted of 20 parturients with delivery at term and their newborns. Serum free estriol (E3) was also determined.

TRACE METALS IN OLIVE OIL

Acta Horticulturae, 2008
One of the most important quality criteria of olive oil is its metal content. Trace levels of metal ions, such as Fe and Cu, are known to have adverse effects on the oxidative stability of olive oil. Transition metals catalyse the decomposition of hydro-peroxides, aldehydes, ketones, acids and epoxide.

Trace Metals in Asbestos Carcinogenesis

Archives of Environmental Health: An International Journal, 1973
Concentrations of trace metals judged potentially carcinogenic were determined in samples of amosite, crocidolite, and chrysotiie. The samples included commercial material as shipped, milled and processed material as collected in animal exposure chambers, and International Union Against Cancer (UICC) reference samples. The metals determined were cobalt,

Cardiovascular disease and trace metals

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B. Biological Sciences, 1979
Abstract Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the U. K. and other developed countries. In the U. K., mortality from coronary heart disease has increased progressively over the past 25 years, particularly in males.

TRACE METALS IN CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Acta Paediatrica, 1982
ABSTRACT. Serum zinc and copper concentration, 24 hrs urinary zinc and copper excretion, plasma selenium and red blood cell glutathione peroxidase activity were measured in 13 cystic fibrosis patients aged 6 to 15 years. The mean serum zinc value ± S. D. (17.3 μmol/1 ± 4.6) did not differ from that of the control group (17.9 μmol/1 ± 3.1).

The Analysis of Asbestos for Trace Metals

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1974
An atomic absorption method for the determination of beryllium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel, and thallium in asbestos materials is described. Samples are solubilized in 6N HC1 after a digestion procedure using 48% HF on a low temperature (130°C) hotplate.
