Tissue-engineered trachea from a 3D-printed scaffold enhances whole-segment tracheal repair
Long segmental repair of trachea stenosis is an intractable condition in the clinic. The reconstruction of an artificial substitute by tissue engineering is a promising approach to solve this unmet clinical need.

Hemangiopericytoma of the trachea
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1987Malignant neoplasms of the trachea are rare lesions, with no more than 400 cases documented in the literature. Only three tracheal hemangiopericytomas have been reported. We present the fourth case of such a tumour occurring in the trachea. After the first surgical resection the tumour recurred twice in a period of 10 months.

Bioprinted trachea constructs with patient-matched design, mechanical and biological properties
Biofabrication, 2019Tracheal stenosis is a rare but life-threatening disease. Primary clinical procedures for treating this disease are limited if the region requiring repair is long or complex. This study is the first of its kind to fabricate bioprinted tracheal constructs

Development of a flexible 3D printed scaffold with a cell-adhesive surface for artificial trachea
Biomedical Materials, 2019Trachea stents are widely used to treat stenosis arising from various trachea injuries. However, they are associated with inflammation, re-stenosis, and tracheal obstruction.

Current Problems in Surgery, 1970
Adequate techniques for the resection and dependable reconstruction of the trachea have only been developed in the last 15 years. The relative rarity of tracheal lesions, despite the relatively massive explosion of postintubation lesions, has allowed only a few individuals and a few centers to develop any significant experience in depth.

Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery, 2013
This article reviews established methods of autologous tracheal reconstruction, the various synthetic prostheses that have been used in clinical practice, and briefly describes the latest developments in stem cell tracheal bioengineering and allogeneic tracheal transplantation.

Tubercle, 1987
A patient is described who presented with stenosis of the upper trachea causing respiratory distress. There was no evidence of tuberculosis elsewhere in the body but biopsy showed a granulomatous lesion and there was a good response to anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy. A temporary tracheostomy was needed.
