Probabilistic analysis of off-track capability for higher density disk drives

To increasing track density, off-track capability was calculated by using theoretical probabilistic positioning model and definition of data error rate. The results agree with experimental value. This shows the validity of unified probabilistic treatment between mechanical positioning and read write process.

The error rate in head offset positions is calculated using core width of write and read head and mechanical runout.
