AFM tip gauge by nuclear tracks methodology

Radiation Measurements, 2005
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) instrumentation in the different modes of operation is a metrologic system for evaluating some surface properties of solid and semisolid materials. The resolution of this instrument depends strongly on the tip sharpness, which can be changed by contamination of the AFM tip apex due to wearing and/or breaking.

History of the Track Gauge

2013
Historically, the choice of gauge was partly arbitrary and partly a response to local conditions. Narrow-gauge railways are cheaper to build and can negotiate sharper curves but broad-gauge railways give greater stability and permit higher speeds.

On the Gauges of Railroad Track in General, with Special Consideration of Narrow-Gauge Railroads

Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1893
Many text books, pamphlets and engineering papers contain a bountiful supply of scientific discussions, based only partly on practical experience, on the selection of the gauge which generally exer...

Storm tracking using rain gauge data

Journal of Hydrology, 1987
Abstract The unknown spatial distribution and kinematics of short-term rainfall are recognised as the most important reasons for errors in runoff simulation on urban catchments. Since the storm movement influences the shape of the runoff hydrographs, the modern rainfall input should include patterns of this movement.

Railroad Track Transitions with Multidepth Deflectometers and Strain Gauges

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2014
Railway transitions such as bridge approaches experience differential movements related to differences in track system stiffness, track damping characteristics, foundation type, ballast settlement from fouling or degradation, as well as fill and subgrade settlement.

Demonstration of Semiconductor Laser Tracking Frequency Distance Gauge

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2010, 2010
We present results from the Semiconductor-Laser Tracking Frequency distance Gauge having Allan deviation of 5 pm. The simple and rugged SL-TFG will achieve sub-pm accuracy. It is required for space-based astronomical instruments and gravitational experiments.

Tracking secondary transducer for a cryogenic liquid level gauge

Measurement Techniques, 1985
The authors have developed a tracking level gauge that allows one to lock onto a particular resonance, giving remote sensing as the first advantage and high conversion accuracy as the second, in which the frequency of the FM oscillator is adjusted by a peak-holding regulation system to be equal to the sensor frequency.

Ultrasonic biomechanical strain gauge based on speckle tracking

Proceedings., IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium, 2003
The potential of ultrasonic speckle tracking for characterizing tissue dynamics was illustrated and validated by an experiment with a tissue-mimicking phantom undergoing compression during a 2-D echographic-sequence acquisition. The speckle linear transformation (LT) is then computed from successive frames in the echographic sequences using an optical ...

Filter Bed Depth Gauge Tracks Media Loss

Opflow, 1996
Water system operators in Grand Forks, North Dakota, created a filter bed depth gauge to keep track of the amount of filter media that is lost. The gauge can be made of materials that are probably lying around the plant, is easy to use and more than adequate concerning accuracy.
