Multi-Stage Hybrid Drives for Traction Applications
Joint Rail, 2005Recent increases in fueling costs have created new interest in energy storage technologies for transportation applications. Railroad locomotives often have high peak-to-average demand for power, which leads to poor fuel efficiency from diesel prime movers, or arcing and pitting of overhead cantenary.

Automotive Traction Drive CVTs - An Overview
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1986<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper is based on a prepared discussion which was presented at the CVT Panel (Session #1PC26) during the 1985 SAE International Congress and Exposition. The paper reviews the background of this rather intriguing class of variable-ratio mechanical drives and briefly summarizes the past worldwide research which ...

Controllers for traction inverter drives
2017The authors present a study of two different types of controllers for a traction voltage source inverter (VSI) drive. The first is a simple scalar control scheme which ensures constant torque operation down to low motor speed. With this controller the inverter V/f characteristic is automatically varied to compensate for different levels of motor load ...

A High Power Density Traction Drive
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1979<div class="htmlview paragraph">A new traction drive has been developed which has the power density required for use in both on- and off-highway vehicles. It avoids problems faced by other types of traction drives such as high contact stresses and roller positioning. The range extends from 0 to 1:1.

ADHESION-RECOVERY CONTROL FOR ELECTRICAL TRACTION DRIVES
1999The Vectorial Torque Control algorithm is applied in order to impose the re-adhesion trajectory in an induction motor drive for traction purposes. It allows to achieve a very strong anti-skidding action assuring, at the same time, low stress for the mechanical parts.

Power Dissipation in Elastohydrodynamic Traction Drives
1994The paper presents an analysis of friction power losses in elastohydrodynamic traction drives and underlines the possibilities of optimisation of these transmissions. Finally, several high performance traction drives are described.
