Controlling electric traction drives for minimum energy wastage

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1979
The inclusion of a gradient load, as a fixed but arbitrary function of distance travelled, is investigated within the design of an optimal controller for electric traction drives. A successful approach is shown to involve (a) the sub-division of a journey into N piecewise constant-gradient stages, (b) the interative solution of the state and costate ...

Characterization of electric motor drives for traction applications

IECON'03. 29th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37468), 2004
The ideal characteristics of an electric motor drive for traction application in an electric and hybrid electric vehicle are high torque at low speed region for fast acceleration, hill climbing and obstacle negotiation, and low torque at high speed for normal driving.

Hybrid electric vehicle DC-bus traction drive harmonics

IEEE International Conference on Electric Machines and Drives, 2005., 2005
This paper presents hybrid electric vehicle harmonic analysis for both single and dual traction motor drive systems. First, inverter output and DC-bus harmonics in single sine-triangle pulse width modulated (SPWM) drives are derived analytically, followed by employing both the switching function approach and Simulink simulations.

ADHESION-RECOVERY CONTROL FOR ELECTRICAL TRACTION DRIVES

1999
The Vectorial Torque Control algorithm is applied in order to impose the re-adhesion trajectory in an induction motor drive for traction purposes. It allows to achieve a very strong anti-skidding action assuring, at the same time, low stress for the mechanical parts.

Gaining Traction: Thermal Management and Reliability of Automotive Electric Traction-Drive Systems

IEEE Electrification Magazine, 2014
Increasing the number of electric-drive vehicles (EDVs) on America?s roads has been identified by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the federal cross-agency electric vehicle (EV)-Everywhere Challenge, and the automotive industry as a strategy with near-term potential for dramatically decreasing the nation?s dependence on oil.
