Deep‐Seated Landslide Stability on Curved Basal Surfaces With and Without Glacier Buttressing

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract Glacial retreat influences landslide dynamics, yet the controls on stability and transient acceleration remain unclear. We develop a two‐dimensional mechanical model of landslides with curved basal surfaces, Mohr‐Coulomb friction, and ice buttressing.

Resolving the Internal Magnetic Domain Structure of Cloudy Zone Tetrataenite

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Recent advances in magnetic imaging can directly capture the internal magnetization of natural and synthetic materials at resolutions <10 nm. This capability opens new possibilities to determine the magnetic domain state of ferromagnetic minerals that are fundamental for recording and retaining paleomagnetic records.

Long, paired A'A/Pahoehoe flows of Mauna Loa: Volcanological significance and insights they provide into volcano plumbing systems [PDF]

open access: yes
The long lava flows of Mauna Loa, Hawaii have been cited as Earth's closed analogs to the large Martian flows. It is therefore important to understand the flow mechanics and characteristics of the Mauna Loa flows and to make use of these in an attempt to

Desertification Risk: Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Directions

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 8, Page 3331-3348, 15 May 2026.
ABSTRACT Desertification, driven by climatic and anthropogenic factors, is one of the most pressing global environmental challenges, causing significant economic, ecological, and social consequences. A bibliometric analysis was performed to identify research trends and gaps in the desertification risk topic.

Evidence for Anthropogenic Surface Loading as Trigger Mechanism of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake

open access: yes, 2011
Two and a half years prior to China's M7.9 Wenchuan earthquake of May 2008, at least 300 million metric tons of water accumulated with additional seasonal water level changes in the Minjiang River Valley at the eastern margin of the Longmen Shan.

Patterns of River Flow Regulation Across the World's Climate Regions

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 5, May 2026.
We quantify the Impoundment Ratio (IR) for 16 060 dams worldwide to assess how reservoir capacity relative to natural runoff varies across climate regions. One‐third of dams have IR ≥ 1, with the highest values in arid and semi‐arid zones and clear national contrasts within similar climates.
