This chapter presents an analysis of ceramic artifacts collected during recent Audrey site excavations. Jar rims are seriated using established chronological sequences from Cahokia; these patterns are considered in conjunction with AMS dates from four features to date the site to Cahokia’s early Stirling phase (AD 1100–1150).

Investigation on traditional and modern ceramic documentation
IEEE International Conference on Image Processing 2005, 2005Archaeology is at a point where it can benefit greatly from the application of computer vision methods, and in turn provides a large number of new, challenging and interesting conceptual problems and data for computer science. This is true in particular in the study of ceramics - the most abundant and widespread of all archaeological finds.

Migration and the Coyotlatelco Ceramic Tradition:
2019This chapter argues that the Late Classic/Epiclassic ceramic style known as Coyotlatelco has roots in the eastern El Bajío of Near West Mexico. Coyotlatelco became a widespread ceramic tradition in Epiclassic Central Mexico. Its chief defining characteristic is its suite of unsupported and tripod-supported vessels decorated with red-painted geometric ...

Measurement of hardness on traditional ceramics
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2002Abstract To reveal quantitatively the hardness of clayware and stoneware, Mohs, Vickers (micro and macro) and superficial Rockwell indentation measurements were applied to roofing tiles with different porosity. This work discusses the comparison of different indentation results, indentation size effect on porous clayware and the effect of ...

Traditional Applications for Ceramics
1995Abstract Traditional ceramics, one of two general classes, are commonly used in high-volume manufacturing to make building materials, household products, and various industrial goods. Although there is a tendency to equate traditional ceramics with low technology, sophisticated processes and advanced manufacturing techniques are often ...

Traditional Ceramic Industries
1991Abrasives are cutting and grinding media used primarily in the glass and metal industries to shape consumer products. They are marketed in three general forms: 1. Bonded abrasives such as wheels and discs. 2. Coatings on paper and cloth. 3. Loose-grain abrasives as polishing pastes.

Elaboration and Invention in Ceramic Traditions
American Antiquity, 1961AbstractA significant working difference between the mode and type is seen to lie in the greater tendency of the former to reappear on different time levels. In part, this is because more opportunity exists for the chance reduplication of an isolated feature than for a group of integrated attributes.
