Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy for Feeding and Swallowing in Children From Four to 12 Years: What Does the Evidence Show? A Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT) for improving feeding and swallowing outcomes in children aged 4–12 years. Searches of four databases identified 17 studies, all reporting positive feeding and/or swallowing outcomes, including improved eating and swallowing skills, orofacial muscle function and

Differences in Tongue Muscle Activity During Chewing of Rice With Various Textures

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
During chewing, tongue muscle activity increased in the late stage for softer, wetter and more cohesive boluses, showing a pattern distinct from the masseter and suprahyoid muscles. These findings suggest that tongue muscle activity is modulated according to bolus properties and may contribute to bolus gathering, shaping and transport.

Condylar Trabecular Bone Texture in Temporomandibular Disorders: A Quantitative Computed Tomography Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Quantitative computed tomography texture analysis revealed differences in mandibular condylar trabecular bone among patients with temporomandibular disorders and asymptomatic controls. Distinct texture features were identified in the peri‐cystic bone of condyles with subchondral cysts, suggesting alterations in local trabecular bone microarchitecture ...

Periodontal Salutogenesis: Why Are Some People Resistant to Oral Microbial Dysbiosis and Destructive Inflammation?

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Emerging evidence suggests that periodontal health is not simply the absence of disease, but the result of a dynamic interaction between biological resilience, healthy lifestyles, adaptive coping mechanisms, and supportive environments. This results in a strong sense of coherence, which is not only a psychological state but also a biological state ...

Periodontal and orthodontic management of impacted canines

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract The maxillary and mandibular canines are described by many clinicians as the “cornerstone” of the arch. When in their optimal position, they play a critical role in providing a well‐balanced occlusal scheme that contributes toward functional as well as neuromuscular stability, harmony, esthetics, and dentofacial balance.
