Associations of PM2.5 and road traffic noise with mental health: Evidence from UK Biobank.

Environmental Research, 2021
BACKGROUND The associations of atmospheric particulate matter with diameters of 2.5 μm or less (PM2.5) and road traffic noise with mental disorders in men and women are not well studied.

Associations of road traffic noise with cardiovascular diseases and mortality: Longitudinal results from UK Biobank and meta-analysis.

Environmental Research, 2022
BACKGROUND Epidemiological evidence suggests potential associations of road traffic noise exposure with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality, but uncertainty remains.

Estimating traffic noise over a large urban area: An evaluation of methods.

Environment International, 2022
Unlike air pollution, traffic-related noise remains unregulated and has been under-studied despite evidence of its deleterious health impacts. To characterize population exposure to traffic noise, both acoustic-based numerical models and data-driven ...

Traffic noise models and noise guidelines: A review

Noise & Vibration Worldwide, 2021
Traffic noise is a major cause of noise pollution, and impacts of noise pollution on humans have been studied extensively. Previous studies have helped in the development of traffic noise prediction analysis using robust analytical and computational ...

Traffic Noise

International Journal of Artificial Life Research, 2011
In this paper, the study of traffic noise is presented from the point of view of 1/f noise. Samples of Traffic Noise are collected from selected locations from busy roads of Aurangabad city in Maharashtra state (India) and data is analyzed. It is observed that in many cases the traffic noise possesses pink noise (1/f noise) prevailing over appreciable ...

Noise quality of traffic noise

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2007
Traffic noise is considered as one major source of noise annoyance in urban context indicated by the increasing number of complaints. The neglect of quality parameters regarding pass-by noise appears as a basic cause for the unreduced annoyance. Several parameters besides the SPL have an important influence on noise evaluation, such as low frequency ...

IS FREIGHT TRAFFIC NOISE MORE ANNOYING THAN PASSENGER TRAFFIC NOISE?

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1996
In the Netherlands a new freight-only railway route, the "Betuweroute", is being planned to carry freight traffic from Rotterdam harbour east into Germany. Inhabitants of areas near the future route are concerned about noise and vibration, and question the relevance of current legislation for a "freight-only" line.

Health effects of traffic noise

International Archives of Occupational and Environmental Health, 1980
In 57 test persons having worked 1 day under traffic noise (Leq = 85 dB(A) and 1 day without noise (Leq < 50 dB(A), blood pressure and pulse frequency were measured at 1 h intervals and total urine was collected during working hours. Additionally, blood was sampled at the end of each working day.

Traffic and noise in children's wards

Medical Journal of Australia, 1994
To measure pedestrian traffic volumes and noise levels in paediatric open bay areas and discuss their impact on the care of sick children.Between August and October 1992, we recorded the number and duration of entrances to two open bay areas comprising eight and ten beds respectively in a ward for infants and a ward for older children.

Traffic noise and traffic light control

Transportation Research Part D: Transport and Environment, 1998
Abstract An optimal control problem of traffic light duration is considered. The traffic noise level is introduced as a state variable in a dynamical optimization problem. A closed loop control system is designed which influences the green duration of the lights according to the equivalent noise level.
