Cost Model for the Footprint Planning of Production Environments in Lithium‐Ion Battery Production

open access: yesEnergy Technology, EarlyView.
Lithium‐ion batteries are a key element in the energy transition. However, their production still faces cost‐ and energy‐related challenges. This work introduces a footprint modeling approach incorporated into a cost model to assess the impact of different production environments on costs and energy consumption.

Precision therapies for genetic epilepsies in 2025: Promises and pitfalls

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract By targeting the underlying etiology, precision therapies offer an exciting paradigm shift to improve the stagnant outcomes of drug‐resistant epilepsies, including developmental and epileptic encephalopathies. Unlike conventional antiseizure medications (ASMs) which only treat the symptoms (seizures) but have no effect on the underlying ...

Dual Graph‐Based Bayesian Network Modeling With Rao‐Blackwellization for Seismic Reliability and Complexity Quantification of Network Connectivity

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Modern societies depend on various lifeline networks such as transportation, electricity, and gas distribution systems, which are vulnerable to seismic events. Although numerous analytical and simulation‐based methods have been developed for efficient seismic system reliability analysis (SRA), dealing with high‐dimensional events arising from ...

Seismic Resilience Assessment of a Regional Bridge Network

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study evaluates the seismic resilience of a regional bridge network, focusing on the interconnectedness and interdependence among individual bridges and emergency facilities. A framework for resilience assessment is developed and applied to a bridge network in Vancouver, British Columbia, consisting of 11 bridges across seven main routes.

Decentralized Wind Energy Systems as Catalysts for Urban Resilience: A Design Framework

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confronting the escalating extreme weather events (EWEs) and intensifying winds, this study proposes an active response to these issues by exploring decentralized wind energy production for Peng Chau Island, Hong Kong. It integrates theoretical perspectives on energy democracy—empowering local communities through energy autonomy—and urban ...

A fire safety engineering approach to improving community resilience to the impacts of wildfire

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
Abstract Each year severe wildfires continue to cause significant destruction resulting in the loss of life, property, critical infrastructure, and the environment. In an effort to increase community preparedness and resilience to wildfire, international jurisdictions have adopted both guiding principles and prescriptive codes that apply to both urban ...
