Induced Traffic Volume Prediction of a New Highway Based on the ESE Gravity Model

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation
Induced traffic volume is an important indicator for evaluating the feasibility of traffic project construction and predicting traffic demand. However, among the many models used in engineering to predict induced traffic volume, the economic spillover ...

Income, Income Inequality and the “Hidden Epidemic” of Traffic Fatalities [PDF]

open access: yes
Few, if any, epidemics responsible for 20 million severe injuries and/or deaths each year, globally, receive less public attention than do traffic accidents truly making them a “hidden epidemic”.

Respiratory symptoms in children living near busy roads and their relationship to vehicular traffic: results of an Italian multicenter study (SIDRIA 2). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies have provided evidence that exposure to vehicular traffic increases the prevalence of respiratory symptoms and may exacerbate pre-existing asthma in children.

Extracellular Vesicles Modulation by an Adiponectin Receptor Agonist Provides Cardioprotection for Myocardial Ischemic Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that ALY688, a drug mimicking the heart‐protective hormone adiponectin, reduces myocardial ischemia injury. ALY688 increases the production of extracellular vesicles, which carry protective cargo including adiponectin itself.

Effects of Roads and Traffic on Wildlife Populations and Landscape Function: Road Ecology is Moving toward Larger Scales

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2011
Road ecology has developed into a significant branch of ecology with steady growth in the number of refereed journal articles, books, conferences, symposia, and "best practice" guidelines being produced each year. The main objective of this special issue

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

Functional Blood‐Brain Barrier Crossing by Biomimetic M13 Phage Vectors for Targeted Neuronal Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the M13 bacteriophage as a biomimetic nanovector capable of crossing in vitro models of the blood–brain barrier. By exploiting peculiar transcellular pathways, M13 avoids lysosomal degradation and preserves its structural integrity and functionality.

A Versatile Microfluidic Extrusion‐Based Hydrogel Platform for Self‐Organization and Long‐Term Maintenance of Engineered 3D Lymphatic Endothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Microfluidic coaxial extrusion generates size‐controlled 3D lymphatic tubes from primary human dermal lymphatic endothelial cells in a defined four‐component matrix. These engineered vessels self‐organize into stable lymphatic endothelium, maintain selective macromolecular permeability for 30 days, and enable direct comparison with blood endothelial ...

An Investigation into Traffic Turning Movement at Jibowu [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper aims at understanding the behavioral pattern of traffic at Jibowu intersection with a view of using the results obtained as a model for understudying traffic movement at similar intersections in the Lagos metropolis.
