Sensing the sky's edge: Atmospheric insights into the Korean demilitarised zone

open access: yesArea, EarlyView.
Short Abstract In this paper, I demonstrate that novel and creative ‘atmospheric methods’ not only provide us with a means of overcoming difficulties around access to border spaces, but also more importantly afford us new insights into how atmospherically attuned things and the materialities of weather become entangled with and produce border ...

The quarantine window: Atmospheres and anguish at the COVID‐19 borderlands

open access: yesArea, EarlyView.
Abstract In this paper we want to consider border atmospheres—what we understand as the material‐affective and emotional expressions of feeling in the dispersed borderlands of COVID quarantine spaces—through the quarantine hotel window. While the quarantine hotel is a seemingly more benign extension or expansion of the medico‐political border through ...

Feeling the heat: associations among daily ambient temperatures, extreme heat days and risk mortality in Australian dogs from New South Wales (1997–2017)

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Global warming is expected to drive increases in daily temperatures and extreme heatwaves which are in turn expected to lead to increases in heat‐related illness (HRI) morbidity and mortality in humans and animals, including dogs. The most severe form of HRI is heat stroke which is potentially fatal in dogs.

Characterizing grazing and terrain use patterns of Hispano‐Breton mares in the Spanish Pyrenees using GPS devices and remote sensing data

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Geotechnologies, such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and remote sensing, are essential for documenting topographic features and analyzing land use. Among them, the GPS (Global Position System)‐based sensors have proven highly effective in monitoring livestock, providing high‐resolution data on movement patterns.

Plasticity in climate change responses

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recent research has shown that climate change can both induce and modulate the expression of plastic traits but our understanding of the role of phenotypic plasticity as an adaptive response to climate change is limited. In this review, we dissect the mechanisms and impact of phenotypic plasticity as a response to accumulating climatic ...

Indigenous peoples and local community reports of climate change impacts on biodiversity

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Climate change impacts on biodiversity have been primarily studied through ecological research methods, largely ignoring other knowledge systems. Indigenous and local knowledge systems include rich observations of changes in biodiversity that can inform climate change adaptation planning and environmental stewardship.
