A suspected case of transfusion-related acute lung injury
Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a rare but serious complication of blood transfusion. We present a suspected case of TRALI in a 39-year-old female patient who underwent total abdominal hysterectomy under uneventful general anesthesia ...

Transfusion-Related acute lung injury in a patient with hellp syndrome: A case report

Possible TRALI is a real entity
After the consensus definition of transfusion‐related acute lung injury (TRALI), studies have shown that the incidence of TRALI is high in critically ill and injured patients. When another risk factor for lung injury is present in these patients, the term “possible TRALI” is used.

Ferrostatin-1 prevents transfusion-related acute lung injury in mice by inhibiting ferroptosis
[Objective] To investigate the role of ferroptosis in transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) and evaluate the efficacy of the specific inhibitor Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), thereby to provide a basis for the prevention and treatment of TRALI. [Methods]

Abstract Background and Objectives Requests for “unvaccinated” blood have been discouraged by professional and regulatory bodies because they lack scientific support and may negatively impact patient care. We describe a single‐center series in which patients or surrogates refused standard blood components unless sourced from directed donors perceived ...

Osteopontin makes the bridge in TRALI [PDF]
In this issue of Blood , Kapur et al demonstrated that osteopontin (OPN) released by macrophages plays a key role in the chemoattraction of neutrophils in transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI). Their study provides a novel mechanism by which inflammation arises in this leading cause of transfusion-related death ...
