Scouts vs. usurpers: alternative foraging strategies facilitate coexistence between neotropical Cathartid vultures

open access: yesIbis, Volume 166, Issue 4, Page 1368-1383, October 2024.
Understanding how diverse assemblages of scavengers can coexist on shared ecological resources is a fundamental challenge in community ecology. However, current approaches typically focus on behaviour at carcass provisioning sites, missing how important differences in movement behaviour and foraging strategies can facilitate sympatric species ...

Ticks of new world tapirs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper, we present an updated list of ticks that have been found infesting New World tapirs. For this purpose, literature records were obtained from the INTA tick database.

[PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
: Temporal and spatial interactions of sympatric mesocarnivores at a Biosphere Reserve: coexistence or competition? Interspecific interactions among tropical mesocarnivorous species and other mammalian trophic guilds have been poorly studied, despite ...

open access: yes, 2020
In this note we report the first photographic records through the use of camera traps of leucistic individuals of Mazama zamora Erxleben (1777) and Mazama murelia Cuvier (1817) from Ecuador.

Selective impacts of subsistence hunting on mammal communities in Manu National Park, Peru

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 5, September 2024.
We analyzed change in species relative abundance and functional composition of mammal communities, including non‐hunted species, along a hunting pressure gradient and included potential confounding environmental and disturbance gradients (distances to rivers, lakes, settlements, and trails; NDVI at survey point).

Use of water bodies by the collared peccary Pecari tajacu (Artiodactyla: Tayassuidae) in the Maya Forest, Mexico [PDF]

open access: yes

Clustered and rotating designs as a strategy to obtain precise detection rates in camera trapping studies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 61, Issue 7, Page 1649-1661, July 2024.
Our research provides a guideline for wildlife managers and researchers to improve the precision of camera trap detection rates and optimize resource allocation. In general, the study design should accommodate the behaviour of the target species (e.g.

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we report three different records of the long tail weasel (Mustela frenata) using camera traps in the western portion of Campeche; thus confirming the presence of the species in this Mexican ...

Niche expansion of capuchin monkeys to forest floor on guild‐reduced islands increases interspecific spatio‐temporal overlap

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 56, Issue 3, May 2024.
On an island system with reduced guilds, capuchin monkeys exhibit high levels of terrestriality and localized tool use, which may have consequences for sympatric species with shared diets. Here we used camera traps to assess the degree of spatio‐temporal overlap between capuchins and agoutis at a site with predators and two islands with reduced guilds.

Diversidad de mamíferos de la Reserva Natural Sierra Nanchititla, México Diversity of mammals in the Natural Reserve Sierra Nanchititla, Mexico
