The absolute magnitude distribution of trans-Neptunian objects [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2003
It is shown that the known trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) have an absolute magnitude distribution index that increases as a function of orbital perihelion distance. In no perihelion range is the TNO index the same as that found for known short-period comets.

Physical properties of trans-Neptunian objects

open access: yes, 2005
In 1992, the first body beyond Neptune since the discovery of Pluto in 1930 was found. Since then, nearly a thousand solid bodies, including some of planetary size, have been discovered in the outer Solar System, largely beyond Neptune.

A SURVEY OF MISSION OPPORTUNITIES TO TRANS-NEPTUNIAN OBJECTS - PART 7: UTILIZATION OF A DELTA-VEGA MANEUVER

open access: yes, 2021
Trans-Neptunian Objects have gained interest in lieu of the success of the New Horizons mission. This paper seeks to further the design possibilities for such missions by offering sixteen trajectories to TNO’s by incorporating a Delta-VEGA maneuver ...

Primordial Orbital Alignment of Sednoids

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We examined the past history of the three most detached trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs)—Sedna, 2012 VP _113 , and Leleakuhonua (2015 TG _387 )—the three clearest members of the dynamical class known as sednoids, with high perihelia distances q .

Measuring Apsidal Clustering

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The decade-long debate over the existence of apsidal clustering in the outer solar system is poised for reignition given the plethora of distant trans-Neptunian object (TNO) discoveries expected from the forthcoming Vera C.

Carbonization in Titan Tholins: implication for low albedo on surfaces of Centaurs and trans-Neptunian objects

open access: yes, 2016
Astronomical observations of Centaurs and trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) yield two characteristic features - near-infrared (NIR) reflectance and low geometric albedo.

Weywot, an Unusually Low-albedo Satellite in the Trans-Neptunian Region

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Weywot is the largest satellite of the candidate dwarf planet Quaoar, which also hosts a remarkable ring system located beyond its Roche limit—a configuration that challenges conventional understanding of ring dynamics.

Collisional evolution of asteroids and Trans–Neptunian objects [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2005
Since Pietrowsky's first analytical study of collisional systems of asteroids (1953), through Dohnanyi's comprehensive theory (1969), to the analytical and numerical studies of the last two decades, the collisional evolution of populations of asteroids — and to a less extent, of Trojans and TNOs— has been investigated by many researchers. The study of
