Scheduling algorithms for parallel transaction processing systems

1997
Shared-nothing parallel transaction processing (TP) systems have great potential to serve the ever-increasing demands for high transaction processing rate. This potential, however, may not be reached due to the negative effect of the widely used two-phase locking (2PL) concurrency control method.

Mobile Transaction Processing System

2017
In this chapter, we first revisit the basic concepts of database transactions, and discuss how these concepts are achieved in practical systems. Next, we briefly go through the architecture of transaction processing systems in the centralized and the distributed environments.

Compensation-based query processing in on-line transaction processing systems

1997
One of the problems associated with running ad-hoc queries in an OLTP system is lock contention. Compensation-based query processing has been proposed as a solution to this problem. In this paper, undo/no-redo compensation is used to bring inconsistent copies of the base relations into a transaction-consistent state.

Retrieval processes in transactive memory systems.

Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 1998
Two experiments examined retrieval processes in transactive memory systems (D. M. Wegner, 1987). In Experiment 1, intimate couples who worked face to face performed better on a knowledge-pooling task than strangers who worked face to face and better than intimate couples who worked via a computer conferencing system.

Distributed Transaction Processing and The Camelot System

1987
This paper describes distributed transaction processing, a technique used for simplifying the construction of reliable distributed systems. After introducing transaction processing, the paper presents models describing the structure of distributed systems, the transactional computations on them, and the layered software architecture that supports those

Modeling and Analysis of Transaction Processing Systems

1996
Methods for evaluating the performance of transaction processing systems as affected by hardware resource contention are described in this chapter. Hardware resource contention has the primary effect on performance, while data or lock contention has a secondary effect.
