Transactional memory for dependable embedded systems
2011 IEEE/IFIP 41st International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks Workshops (DSN-W), 2011Transactional Memory (TM) has been touted as one of the most promising approaches to concurrent programming for multi-core processors. By combining ease of use with high scalability potential, as well as checkpointing capabilities particularly useful for developing dependable software, TM has attracted considerable attention from the research community.

The Organization as a Transactive Memory System
2007Transactive memory systems (TMS) essentially consist of sets of directories containing metadata which point to knowledge locations and the processes that maintain and utilize those directories. In this chapter, we introduce the notion of the organization and consider how this perspective can assist with the design of human and technology-supported ...

Transactions in distributed shared memory systems
[1992] Eighth International Conference on Data Engineering, 2003The authors propose a distributed shared memory model based on a paged segmented two-level address space and an extended set of memory operations. In addition to the traditional read and write operations, the memory model includes operations which support mapping between local and global address spaces and mapping of processes to transactions.

An Efficient Distributed Transactional Memory System
2012 IEEE 11th International Conference on Trust, Security and Privacy in Computing and Communications, 2012Transactional memory (TM) is a parallel programming concept which reduces challenges in parallel programming. Existing distributed transactional memory system consumes too much bandwidth and brings high latency. In this work, we present Transactional Memory System for Cluster (Clustm), a generalized and scalable distributed transactional memory system.

Runtime Validation of Transactional Memory Systems
9th International Symposium on Quality Electronic Design (isqed 2008), 2008Transactional Memory (TM) has been proposed as a promising solution to effectively harness the increasing processing power of emerging multi/many- core systems. While there has been considerable research on the design and implementation of TM systems, it remains to be shown how to address the validation challenge of such systems in face of increasing ...

The Impact of Transactive Memory Systems on Team Performance
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2013PurposeThe paper aims to combine TMS with knowledge management outcomes to investigate their impact on team performance based on an integrative research framework. Two types of social ties (instrumental ties and expressive ties) are also investigated as moderators to explore their impact on the relationship between TMS and knowledge quality.Design ...

On Transactional Scheduling in Distributed Transactional Memory Systems
2010We present a distributed transactional memory (TM) scheduler called Bi-interval that optimizes the execution order of transactional operations to minimize conflicts. Bi-interval categorizes concurrent requests for a shared object into read and write intervals to maximize the parallelism of reading transactions.

Schemes for avoiding starvation in transactional memory systems
Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, 2008AbstractTransactional memory systems trade ease of programming with run‐time performance losses in handling transactions. This paper focuses on starvation effects that show up in systems where unordered transactions are committed on a demand‐driven basis. Such simple commit arbitration policies are prone to starvation.

An Object-Aware Hardware Transactional Memory System
2008 10th IEEE International Conference on High Performance Computing and Communications, 2008Transactional memory (TM) is receiving attention as a way of expressing parallelism for programming multi-core systems. As a parallel programming model it is able to avoid the complexity of conventional locking. TM can enable multi-core hardware that dispenses with conventional bus-based cache coherence, resulting in simpler and more extensible systems.

Towards distributed software transactional memory systems
Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Large-Scale Distributed Systems and Middleware, 2008The recent architectural trend that has lead to the widespread adoption of multi-core CPUs has fostered a remarkable research interest in Software Transactional Memory (STM). As STMs are starting to face the high availability and scalability requirements of real-world production environments, it is natural to foresee the need for replication solutions ...
