An inexpensive and effective retractor for transanal surgery
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1986An extremely effective retractor for use in transanal surgery can be produced by removing the polyethylene bag from a standard colostomy appliance and cutting notches in the outer circumference. The resultant pliable ring serves as a frame to which heavy silk sutures can be attached after placement tangentially at the dentate line.

Replacing Transanal Excision With Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery And/Or Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery for Early Rectal Cancer [PDF]
The use of local resection of rectal polyps and early rectal cancer has progressed to become the standard of care in most institutions with a colorectal surgery specialist. The use of transanal excision (TAE) with anorectal retractors and standard instrumentation has been supplanted by the application of endoscopic techniques which allow direct video ...

2013
Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) has led to renewal interest in the approach for local excision of rectal neoplasia and even en bloc total mesorectal excision for curative-intent rectal cancer surgery. TAMIS has been performed with and without endoscopic assistance and more recently with the da Vinci platform.

The anatomy of transanal minimally invasive surgery: Perineal distances and transanal angles
Clinical Anatomy, 2018The recent interest in transanal, minimally invasive surgery has highlighted the importance of an in depth understanding of this complex region. We applied data from an anatomical study of the perineum to the concept of transanal minimally invasive surgery with the aim to describe more accurately anatomy relevant to this surgical technique.

Transanal endoscopic surgery with a 3D printed device
Techniques in Coloproctology, 2021The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of devices manufactured with 3D printing for performing transanal endoscopic procedures without pneumorectum.Functional devices were designed in the Polytechnic School of Engineering of Gijón from 2016 to 2018 using three-dimensional (3D) solid modelling software (Solid-Works®), that allows ...

Robotic transanal access surgery
Surgical Endoscopy, 2012Transanal use of laparoscopic instrumentation has been described in several case reports as an alternative to transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM). Both of these techniques have significant technical limitations due to anatomical constrictions. Robotic technology with articulating instruments has been effectively used in many areas with anatomic ...

Transanal endoscopic surgery for complications of prior rectal surgery
Surgical Endoscopy, 2016Long-term complications of previous rectal surgery (e.g., enterovisceral fistula, anastomotic stricture, rectal stenosis) can be challenging problems for which transabdominal or transperineal surgery with or without definitive fecal diversion is often required.

Complications of transanal endoscopic surgery
Seminars in Colon and Rectal Surgery, 2015Over the past decade, transanal endoscopic surgery (TES) has gained worldwide popularity for its role in the excision of benign and favorable malignant rectal lesions. Compared to the traditional transanal excision, TES provides better visualization, less specimen fragmentation, and improved outcomes based on negative margin status and decreased ...

Transanal Endoscopic Surgery (TES)
2018There has been a significant evolution of the transanal excision technique over the past 3–4 decades. In 1983, Gerhard Buess introduced a disruptive technique in colorectal surgery, transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM). The initial results comparing TEM to the standard of care, transanal excision (TAE), revealed that TEM was associated with superior

Comparison of Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) and Transanal Endoscopic Operations (TEO)
Indian Journal of Surgery, 2019Rectal lesions, benign or malignant, are one of the most encountered clinical entities in general surgery departments. Technological breakthroughs in local excision techniques have been occurring such as transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM), transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS), and transanal endoscopic operations (TEO) during the last two ...
