Lung abscess and empyema following bronchoscopy: A case report and review of the literature

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2020
Severe pulmonary infections after bronchoscopy and transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) are uncommon. We report a rare case of lung abscess and empyema after a routine TBLB performed for the diagnosis of lung cancer.

Detachment and recovery of an X-ray opaque tip of a disposable guide sheath kit: A rare complication of endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial biopsy

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2020
Endobronchial ultrasound with a guide sheath (EBUS-GS)-guided transbronchial biopsy offers advantages and is frequently used for the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions.

Comparative study between medical thoracoscopic, bronchoscopic transbronchial, and ultrasound-guided transthoracic lung biopsies in diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2020
Background Peripheral pulmonary lesions are common clinical problems which need to be diagnosed through techniques less invasive than surgical biopsies. Objectives To compare safety and diagnostic yield of fiberoptic transbronchial, medical thoracoscopic,

Diagnosis of unexposed tumours using endobronchial ultrasonography with a guide sheath and a thin transbronchial needle

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, 2021
Transbronchial diagnosis of unexposed lung tumours is challenging in clinical practice. Although modified transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) is used for this purpose, the diagnostic yield is unsatisfactory.

Interstitial lung diseases in Saudi Arabia: A single-center study

open access: yesAnnals of Thoracic Medicine, 2013
Background: There are relatively few epidemiological studies on interstitial lung disease (ILD) worldwide. Objective: To report the incident cases of ILD and compare our data with reports from other populations.

Novel technique of performing transbronchial lung cryobiopsy (TBLC) for diagnosing diffuse parenchymal lung diseases (DPLD) in infants

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, 2023
Childhood interstitial lung disease (ChILD) diagnosis often requires surgical lung biopsy after the common causes are ruled out. However, surgical lung biopsy has its own set of complications. Hence transbronchial lung cryobiopsy has been used in various

The Utility of Various Cytological Specimens in Relation with Bronchoscopic Biopsy Findings for Diagnosis of Lung Carcinoma: Clinicopathological Study

open access: yesMedical Journal of Babylon
Background: Bronchoscopy and different modalities to obtain tissue samples form the cornerstone of lung cancer diagnostics. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of cytological samples in diagnosing or aiding the diagnosis of lung cancer and to compare ...

Silicosis, Sarcoidosis, and Silicosarcoidosis Are Overlapping Diagnoses and Difficult to Differentiate

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We evaluated 12 workers with documented exposure to respirable crystalline silica who were referred to a tertiary care center due to clinical suspicion of silicosis, sarcoidosis, or silicosarcoidosis. Although silica exposure is a well‐established risk factor for silicosis and has been associated with autoimmune diseases, mycobacterial ...

Disseminated Histoplasmosis: An Unusual Finding at ROSE

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We describe an unusual case in which disseminated histoplasmosis was suspected at the time of of rapid on‐site assessment (ROSE) performed during endobronchial ultrasound‐guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS‐TBNA). The patient was a renal transplant recipient with fever, mild anemia, bilateral lung infiltrates and mediastinal ...

Cytomorphology and Molecular Profile of Hyalinizing Clear Cell Carcinoma of the Lung: A Case With Mucinous Differentiation

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hyalinizing clear cell carcinoma (HCCC) of the lung is an exceedingly rare salivary gland‐type neoplasm with limited cytomorphologic description. We report a case highlighting these features. A 3 mm incidental left‐airway lesion enlarged to 7 mm over 5 months, prompting radial endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS)‐guided transbronchial biopsy. Touch
