Abstract Aims Mortality in cardiogenic shock (CS) remains elevated, with the potential for CS causes to impact prognosis and risk stratification. The aim was to investigate in‐hospital prognosis and mortality in CS patients according to aetiology. We also assessed the prognostic accuracy of CardShock and IABP‐SHOCK II scores.

Initial experience of a large, self-expanding, and fully recapturable transcatheter aortic valve: The UK & Ireland Implanters' registry. [PDF]
OBJECTIVES: The UK & Ireland Implanters' registry is a multicenter registry which reports on real-world experience with novel transcatheter heart valves. BACKGROUND: The 34 mm Evolut R transcatheter aortic valve is a self-expanding and fully recapturable

Determinants of image quality of rotational angiography for on-line assessment of frame geometry after transcatheter aortic valve implantation [PDF]
To study the determinants of image quality of rotational angiography using dedicated research prototype software for motion compensation without rapid ventricular pacing after the implantation of four commercially available catheter-based valves ...

We have developed a unique method for pre‐clinical heart valve prostheses evaluation of calcification propensity. Results from the test can directly be translated into improvements of prostheses design, materials, and anti‐calcification treatments, and therefore have a significant impact on heart valve prostheses quality and patient care in the future.

Reoperative aortic valve replacement in the era of valve‐in‐valve procedures
Current evidence suggests that the choice between valve‐in‐valve transcatheter aortic valve implantation and reoperative aortic valve replacement should be based on multiple factors.

Prevalence, predictors, and prognostic implications of residual impairment of functional capacity after transcatheter aortic valve implantation [PDF]
Background: Patients with degenerative aortic stenosis (AS) referred for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) typically have advanced cardiac and vascular adverse remodeling and multiple comorbidities and, therefore, might not recover a normal ...

Percutaneous femoro‐femoral V‐A ECMO cannulation was associated with more than a two‐fold lower risk of site bleeding and nearly a six‐fold lower risk of infection compared with surgical cut‐down, with no difference in limb ischemia. Absence of distal perfusion catheterization and larger arterial cannula size were additional modifiable ischemia risk ...
