Design Improvement of Transcatheter Aortic Valves for Aortic Stenosis Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Aortic valve disease is a common condition in patients above 60 years of age and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Aortic valve stenosis is characterized by the narrowing of the aortic valve, which can be quite debilitating.

Transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy in aortic stenosis patients scheduled for transcatheter aortic valve implantation

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abbreviations: TAVI, transcatheter aortic valve implantation; ATTR‐CM, transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis. We aimed to diagnose occult ATTR‐CM in patients with severe aortic stenosis undergoing TAVI using bone scintigraphy. We verified a diagnosis of ATTR‐CM in 8 of 171 (4.7 %) consecutive aortic stenosis patients who underwent TAVI.

Comparison of Contemporary Treatment Strategies in Patients With Cardiogenic Shock Due to Severe Aortic Stenosis

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background The aims of this study were to understand the incidence and outcomes of patients with cardiogenic shock (CS) due to severe aortic stenosis (AS), and the impact of conventional treatment strategies in this population.

Dapagliflozin effect on functional mitral regurgitation and myocardial remodelling: The DEFORM trial

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure, and current guideline‐directed medical therapy (GDMT) offers limited efficacy in managing FMR. This study aims to evaluate the therapeutic impact of the sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) dapagliflozin in patients with ...

Experimental investigation of the flow downstream of a dysfunctional bileaflet mechanical aortic valve [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Mechanical heart valve replacement is the preferred alternative in younger patients with severe symptomatic aortic valve disease. However, thrombus and pannus formations are common complications associated with bileaflet mechanical heart valves. This leads to risks of valve leaflet dysfunction, a life threatening event.

Mitral regurgitation in patients with severe aortic stenosis: Diagnosis and management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Severe aortic stenosis (AS) and mitral regurgitation (MR) frequently coexist. Although some observational studies have reported that moderate or severe MR is associated with higher mortality, the optimal management of such patients is still unclear ...

Impact of mitral valve transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair on haemodynamic parameters in cardiogenic shock

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Transcatheter edge‐to‐edge repair (TEER) has been shown to be an effective treatment option for patients experiencing cardiogenic shock (CS) with concomitant high‐grade mitral valve regurgitation. However, haemodynamic changes following M‐TEER have not been thoroughly investigated. Afterload mismatch, leading to the deterioration of

Left ventricular decompression in paediatric veno‐arterial extracorporeal life support: Reviewing the evidence

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Veno‐arterial extracorporeal life support (VA ECLS) is crucial for neonatal and paediatric patients with severe circulatory collapse but may cause left ventricular (LV) overload, affecting myocardial recovery and causing complications. Evidence on optimal LV decompression strategies in paediatric patients remains limited.

Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement for Aortic Stenosis With Prosthetic Mitral Paravalvular Leak and Hemolytic Anemia

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports, 2020
This report describes a successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement in an older patient with severe aortic stenosis, mitral paravalvular leak, and associated hemolytic anemia.
