Transcatheter Closure of Atrial Septal Defects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 1995
The first transcatheter closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD) was performed by King and Mills in 1976. The Lock Clamshell occluder and the buttoned device are the latest devices to undergo clinical trials. Successful transcatheter closure has been possible with minimal morbidity and mortality.

Transcatheter Left Atrial Appendage Closure

open access: yesMethodist DeBakey Cardiovascular Journal, 2023
Atrial fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia worldwide, placing a large population at risk for potentially disabling ischemic strokes, yet an estimated 50% of eligible patients cannot tolerate or are contraindicated to receive oral anticoagulation.

Transcatheter Closure of Congenital Coronary Artery Fistulas with a Giant Coronary Artery Aneurysm in Children: Experiences from a Single Center

open access: yesChinese Medical Journal, 2017
Background: Transcatheter closure of congenital coronary artery fistulas (CCAFs) is an alternative therapy to surgery; however, data regarding transcatheter closure for CCAF with a giant coronary artery aneurysm (CAA) in pediatric patients are still ...

Transcatheter versus surgical closure of atrial septal defect: Comparison of early result and complication [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Pediatrics
Background. Surgical therapy for closure of atrial septal defect with cardiopulmonary bypass is the gold standard. Transcatheter closure has become an alternative for the treatment of atrial septal defect because 80-90% of atrial septal defects can be ...

Transcatheter closure of post-myocardial infarction ventricular septal defect: A systematic review and single-arm meta-analysis

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Background: Ventricular septal defects (VSDs) are one of the mechanical complications of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Because of the high risks of mortality and postoperative complications, a new alternative method is needed.

Comparison of the early cardiac electromechanical remodeling following transcatheter and surgical secundum atrial septal defect closure in adults

open access: yesThe Egyptian Heart Journal, 2021
Background Secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) closure leads to electrical and mechanical remodeling that occurs early after shunt disappearance. The relationship between electromechanical remodeling using electrocardiogram (ECG) and cardiac magnetic ...

Safety and efficacy of transcatheter closure of outlet-type ventricular septal defects in children and adults with Amplatzer Duct Occluder II

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2021
Background/purpose: Outlet-type VSD is frequently associated with aortic valve prolapse that surgery is frequently required. The literature regarding outcomes of transcatheter closure of outlet-type VSDs is scant.
